  2. MP 'fears for future' of Chelseapublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 16 March 2022

Lille v Chelsea (20:00 GMT, 0-2 first leg)

MP Julian Knight says he "fears for the future of Chelsea", with owner Roman Abramovich subject to government sanctions and the club up for sale.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast, Knight, the chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, said: "There was talk within a few hours of the sanctions that the club were preparing to make lay-offs.

"That must be an incredibly worrying time for staff, especially those who work in areas that are directly under sanctions.

"It can be forgotten in the glamour of football there are many hundreds of people behind the scenes who make things work and they are just as big stakeholders as those sitting in the boardroom."

The players will be calm, the players out of contract might be slightly different.

Thomas Tuchel has coped exceptionally well, he has come out looking really good, it has been difficult for him getting asked all these questions.

Juventus v Villarreal (20:00 GMT, 1-1 on aggregate)

Villarreal got into the Champions League courtesy of winning last season's Europa League final - beating Manchester United 11-10 in an epic penalty shootout as United goalkeeper David de Gea missed the decisive penalty.

The Spanish side are aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2008-09, when they lost 4-1 on aggregate to Arsenal.

Villarreal's best run in the competition came in 2005-06 when they reached the semi-finals but lost to the Gunners, who were then beaten 2-1 by Barcelona in the final.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel on Lille: "They were very physical. They attacked high up the pitch, it was impressive. They had a good pressing game, they were very brave and had the mentality that they had nothing to lose and we expect the same thing today. I know the stadium well and the atmosphere that the fans create.

"They will want to win and have nothing to lose and I know they like being in these situations.

"They’ll give everything to put the pressure on us and ask questions of us. They will play an attacking 4-4-2 that's very fluid, aggressive and direct. We will have to be ready for that but we're also confident in ourselves."

Since then Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has put the club up for sale, and then been sanctioned by the UK government and disqualified as a director of the club by the Premier League.

The club are allowed to play on for now under a special licence and can still pay their staff.

But they are only allowed to spend £20,000 on away travel and cannot sell tickets any more.

Today should be OK because travel was booked and tickets sold before those sanctions.

But a potential quarter-final far away and there could be problems.
