    Legia Warsaw 0-0 Leicester

Mattias Johansson is causing Caglar Soyuncu all manner of bother. He gets in behind the defender and cuts back for a low shot from Andre Martins that is tame and easily saved.

    Another warning, though.

    Legia Warsaw 0-0 Leicester

I'm sure those 800 Leicester fans will be singing today. But they're fighting a losing battle to be heard.

  3. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Legia Warsaw 0-0 Leicester

Brendan Rodgers offers a clap or two of encouragement as he gathers the ball to lob to one of his players for a throw.

If City can hit their stride here they should have too much for Legia. They've not quite found that stride yet, though, this season.

  4. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Legia Warsaw 0-0 Leicester

Good early chance for the home side!

Caglar Soyuncu is fast asleep, allowing Mattias Johansson to nip in and carry the ball into the box. He is off balance so can't get a decent shot away before another Legia player follows up with an effort that is deflected wide.

A VAR check - presumably for a little nudge on Johansson - comes to nothing.

Plenty of noise. The Legia fans are certainly up for this.

  10. 'The club is inexperienced in Europe'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

Legia Warsaw v Leicester (17:45 BST)

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BT Sport: "We had two players that were going to start in Kelechi Iheanacho and Jonny Evans but unfortunately Kel couldn't get into the country and Jonny fell ill before we were travelling. We changed the system for this evening and to keep the team fresh and dynamic.

"There was issue with the documentation to let him into the country. It is disappointing and the club will look into that. It is disappointing for Kel as he has been playing very well. He is now back home and getting ready for the weekend.

"Look at Luke Thomas who has been outstanding since he came in. He has risen to every challenge he has been set. The club as a whole is very inexperienced in Europe. If Harvey Barnes scores tonight he will be the top scorer in Europe for the club."

  11. 'It will be nice to top the chart'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

Legia Warsaw v Leicester (17:45 BST)

Leicester midfielder Harvey Barnes, the club's joint-top goalscorer in European competition with four goals: “I think as we saw last year and playing in it last year, you realise it’s a great competition and it's a great opportunity to play in it.

“I had some great games in it and at the start of the season. To get my first goal of the season [against Napoli] was great. Hopefully, I can continue that tomorrow.

“I didn’t actually see it (his European record) myself, someone made me aware of it and it would be nice to top that chart but there’s a lot of games left in the competition.

“This season, we want to go as far as we can, so there will be a lot of opportunities to get to the top of that and hopefully extend it.”

  12. Format changespublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

A reminder that the format of the Europa League has had a tweak for this season.

The eight group winners progress to the last 16, but there is a bit of extra work for the teams that finish second if they want to join them.

Group runners-up face a play-off round against the sides dropping out of the Champions League after the group stage of that competition.

So it's much more important to top your group.

  13. 'We go into this as favourites'published at 17:15 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

West Ham v Rapid Vienna (20:00 BST)

"It's incredibly exciting," said boss David Moyes of West Ham's return to home European. action.

"It's an achievement that the players put an enormous amount of work in to reach. We'll have a huge crowd here for a Europa League group-stage game."

The last player to score a home goal for West Ham in a European game other than qualifiers was Frank Lampard in a 3-0 Uefa Cup win over Croatia's Osijek in 1999.

Opponents Rapid Vienna have lost four of their past five games in all competitions.

Moyes, whose side beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 away two weeks ago, said: "We go into this game I'm sure as favourites, but I give Rapid Vienna respect as we do all clubs.

"We've watched them closely and we'll give them all the respect. They have more experience than us in Europe in recent times, so we have to be really careful of that."

At 8pm, West Ham play their first European home game since a 1-0 loss to Astra Giurgiu in the play-off round of the Europa League in August 2016.

There are a couple of survivors from the side that started that game still at the Hammers - Angelo Ogbonna and Michail Antonio.

Anyone remember Jonathan Calleri? Started up front in that match.

If you want to exclude qualifiers, this is West Ham's first home European game since 2006. That was a 1-0 loss to Palermo. It was also the game in which Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano made their debuts for the club.

Legia Warsaw v Leicester (17:45 BST)

    Kelechi IheanachoImage source, Getty Images

File this one under the list of more unusual reasons for missing a game of football...

Kelechi Iheanacho has been ruled out of Leicester's Europa League Group C trip to Legia because of an issue with his travel documents.

The striker travelled to Poland but a problem with his paperwork meant he was not allowed into the country.

"His documentation coming into the country wasn't sufficient," said boss Brendan Rodgers. "We'll have to look at that when we're back."

All seems very odd. In the world of modern football, you would assume mistakes like this wouldn't happen, right? Clubs surely check this kind of stuff.

  19. 'Great game in a great atmosphere'published at 16:50 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

Legia Warsaw v Leicester (17:45 BST)

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers on Legia Warsaw: "They're very well organised, the players are very committed, and on the counter-attack they can give us problems.

"In the last game and a half, we have been more like ourselves in our football, so hopefully we can bring that to Legia and make it really difficult for them.

"You travel to play in great stadiums in front of passionate supporters. It should be a great game in a great atmosphere, and it's something you always have to deal with away in Europe.

"It's been a great experience and we want to keep achieving it. It's an ambition of ours to keep playing at this level. You have to earn it and that's hopefully something we can keep doing over the next number of years."
