    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

With Nir Bitton suspended, Welsh, 21, and Murray could well be in action again next week in the return leg. Celtic are being strongly linked with Swedish defender Carl Starfelt, but Ange Postecoglou was giving nothing away on that one...

Celtic go to Denmark in eight days and we'll have that one covered.

Before that, Hibernian and Aberdeen start their Conference League adventures on Thursday. Both Scottish sides are at home for the first legs of their second round qualifiers. Join us again for all of the action.

  2. 'We could have scored four or five tonight'published at 22:24 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

Celtic defender Stephen Welsh is full of praise for his 18-year-old defensive partner Dane Murray and reckons his side should have scored more tonight.

"I thought the first half we were faultless, going forward and back as a team they couldn’t handle our quality," he told BBC Sportsound.

"In the second half, on the ball, we were dangerous and always creating chances with the quality we have up front.

"Dane is good in the air and on the ball too. He’s young so he will make mistakes but everyone does and it’s about how he bounces back from them. He’s got a great career ahead of him.

"I think everyone’s trying to push to be in the starting XI and we all want quality players to come in too.

"With the chances we created, we could have scored four or five, especially in the first half. We looked like a real threat so we’re going over there with a real confidence to win the game."

  3. 'Promising start' for Abadapublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

More from Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who describes Liel Abada's scoring debut as a "promising start".

"He showed really good, intelligent movement and he was in the right area for the goal. He has literally had two or three sessions with us so he is just in the infancy of his Celtic career.

"I don't know where Ryan Christie got the energy from. He had a niggle and hadn’t trained for three or four days and had just one session with us. I didn’t think he’d last 60 minutes never mind still be going like he was at the end of the match."

  4. Youthful defenders 'outstanding'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou refuses to condemn Nir Bitton in public, saying of the red-carded defender: "Players don't let me down. It's disappointing for Bitton and he is probably the most disappointed out of anyone as I know how much he wanted to contribute.

"The important thing for me was the reaction from the players. I thought the two young centre-halves Dane and Welsh, in a Champions League fixture, were outstanding.

"If there’s one area to improve? I thought we gave away some unnecessary fouls. They only got into our box a couple of times and in that sense defensively we did a great job."

  5. 'A frustrating result' for Postecogloupublished at 22:14 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking to BBC Sportsound: "It's a frustrating result. In terms of performance though, I am more than happy with the players.

"I thought it was a tremendous effort. We controlled the game well in the first half, got our goal and we had created a couple of chances before that. We limited them to hardly anything then obviously we’re down to 10 men for a significant amount of time.

"Still, I thought we handled that well, we were nice and compact and created our chances."

I would love Ryan Christie to stay at Celtic because when he's at it, like he was tonight, he's a joy to watch

  7. Edouard miss the crucial moment?published at 22:06 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

One of the biggest turning points is if it goes 2-0 if Edouard didn't fluff his lines and scored that chance. It would have been a completely different game.

  8. Abada & Christie shine for Celticpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

Liel Abada can also be pleased with his Celtic debut. The Israeli winger looked lively and capped a great first half with his first goal. His head must have been spinning when he saw his number up for the substitution once Nir Bitton was sent off.

Ryan Christie was also full of beans and at the heart of most of Celtic's best work in the final third.

  9. 'Celtic slightly unlucky'published at 21:57 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

    John Hartson
Former Celtic striker on BBC Radio Scotland

Overall, I thought Celtic were slightly unlucky to not come away with a win. In a couple of weeks time, you'd hope Christopher Jullien would be back and maybe another new signing back there too. Over the piece, I haven't been convinced that Midtjylland have enough to win this tie.

  10. A fine debut for Murray after Bitton's moment of madnesspublished at 21:55 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

    FT: Celtic 1-1 Midtjylland

We'll hear from Ange Postecoglou later, but what do you think Celtic boss will be saying behind closed doors to Nir Bitton after that stupid red card late in the first half?

The Aussie does not look like a guy to mess with. Will he go full Alf Stewart meets Mad Max or take a more reasoned approach and reflect on how well 18-year-old Dane Murray did in the second half?

An opportunity lost and self-inflicted wounds. Bitton was awful for the red card and Barkas was awful for the goal. That said I don’t think it’s a foul as Welsh wins the ball. A £5m keeper who doesn’t make any saves, though? He just didn’t know where he was

  12. Barkas to blame for equaliser?published at 21:46 British Summer Time 20 July 2021

Barkas is not a convincing goalkeeper at all. He never has been. Have Celtic not seen enough to know he's not the future?

I think Celtic will be a little underwhelmed with the result. McGregor's had chances, Christie hitting the post, Edouard's chance too. They will think they should have won this

All square going into next week's second leg in Denmark.

Remember, away goals no longer apply.

A frustrating debut for Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou, with his side creating a few good chances and Midtjylland not doing much until Evander whipped in a screamer of a free-kick.

Not enough power from Rogic with that shot there, he went for the accuracy when it needed more power. But who created it yet again? Ryan Christie. Then look at him after it, he is back defending in his own half straight away. Outstanding.
