Another long throw from the Blues.

Marc Roberts comes out to the right flank to take this one, and Rams keeper Kelle Roos comes out towards the penalty spot to get a strong punch clear.

The visitors break up the other end and win a corner as Ravel Morrison looks to play in Nathan Byrne.

Derby are playing in from their own half of the pitch. It's like six v four.

They're getting out at will because they've got an overload. Derby are just cutting their way through Blues' midfield and back four a bit too easily.

    Birmingham 0-0 Derby

Derby have the first corner of the game, but it is really well claimed by Matija Sarkic.

Good goalkeeping by the on-loan Wolves player, who's kept three clean sheets since joining the Blues.

    Nearly moment for the Blues.

Lukas Jutkiewicz wins a flick-on from a long kick downfield from the keeper, but Scott Hogan can't react quickly enough to get on the end of it inside the Rams box.

    Birmingham 0-0 Derby

Birmingham work the ball forward and spread it left to Jeremie Bela.

The wing-back's cross is too high for Lukas Jutkiewicz, and Ivan Sunjic has a follow-up shot blocked.

    Birmingham 0-0 Derby

A sudden bit of pressure from the hosts, who look like they are setting up for another long throw but take it short and cross the ball instead.

It's headed away again by Curtis Davies - this time in front of his own keeper - and the ball falls to Tahith Chong.

The on-loan Manchester United man curls it back into the box but no-one in a blue shirt can get on the end of it.

One Blues man went down while tussling with a Rams man, but the ref wasn't interested.

There's another goal to tell you about in League Two and this time it's Barrow who've taken the lead.

Jordan Stevens sends the Bluebirds in front on his home debut against Colchester after pouncing on a defensive error.

Meanwhile, leaders Harrogate still trail 1-0 against Newport after Scot Bennett's early opener for the Exiles.

    Birmingham 0-0 Derby

Derby are passing it around really nicely.

They show some crisp passing in the final third, and Sam Baldock refuses to shoot from a narrow angle.

The Rams work the ball back again and Tom Lawrence, on the edge of the area, has a low shot saved saved by Blues keeper Matija Sarkic.

    The effort lacked power.

  9. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Birmingham 0-0 Derby

    It's been a fairly low-key start.

Marc Roberts launches a long throw into the Derby box, but experienced centre-back Curtis Davies heads it well clear of danger.

Derby get the game under way at St Andrew's.

Victory for Birmingham would see the Blues climb into the top six ahead of the rest of the weekend's action.

The career that Troy Deeney has had, he will not forget that with the fans singing his name and giving him a standing ovation as he walks down the touchline.

He'll be like a kid in a sweet shop, he can't wait to get on.

I haven't heard St Andrew's like this for years, there's a real coming together of players, fans and staff.

Birmingham snapped up Troy Deeney on a free transfer from Watford the day before the transfer window closed last month.

The 33-year-old is a Blues fan and was first taken to St Andrew's when he was seven.

Tonight, 26 years on, he could finally feature for the club he supports after spells at Chelmsley Town, Halesowen Town, Walsall and 11 years with the Hornets.

Deeney has appeared twice as a substitute for Watford this season, and finds himself on the bench for this one.

"My aim is to get Birmingham City back to what it was," Deeney told BBC Radio WM.

  15. Rooney bemoans Derby schedulingpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 10 September 2021

    Birmingham v Derby (20:00 BST)

    Wayne RooneyImage source, Rex Features

Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has criticised the decision to schedule a Friday game for his side at the end of the international break.

Rams winger Kamil Jozwiak played 80 minutes for his country in Poland's 1-1 draw against England in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

And it means Rooney did not consider the 23-year-old for selection tonight.

"I get it, the game's on TV, but I don't see why it couldn't have been 24 hours later on TV," said Rooney.

"He's played the majority of the games for us and to not have him available for selection because our fixture gets put on a Friday night is frustrating.

"I have dealt with a lot in the last few months and this is just something else to deal with."

Well there's been a shock start for League Two leaders Harrogate as they trail early on against Newport.

Scot Bennett sends the Exiles ahead after he's found unmarked from a corner to the visitors.

Elsewhere, it's still goalless between Barrow and Colchester.

Birmingham and Derby are separated by just two points in the table, but the clubs have had slightly diverging fortunes.

The Blues, marshalled by skipper Harlee Dean, have kept three clean sheets in five league games so far this season - with no side conceding fewer goals.

With last season's talisman Colin Kazim-Richards out injured, Derby County have managed just four goals in the Championship.

Only Sheffield United, who have a solitary goal to their name, have found the back of the net less times than the Rams.

Birmingham have found the net seven times - although five of those strikes came in a thumping win at Luton Town.

  18. Team news: Deeney on bench while Baldock returnspublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 10 September 2021

Lee Buchanan replaces suspended left-back Craig Forsyth, while winger Kamil Jozwiak is rested following his exertions for Poland against England on Wednesday.

Sam Baldock returns from injury to lead the line.

Derby XI: Roos, Byrne, Jagielka, Davies, Buchanan, Bird, Shinnie, Lawrence (capt), Morrison, Sibley, Baldock.

Time to concentrate on tonight's Championship match and Birmingham have had a solid start to the new campaign, which leaves them one point off the top six.

Lee Bowyer's Blues are aiming to stretch their unbeaten run to three games, but have not won any of their past four at St Andrew's stretching back to April.

Derby are still working through some off-field issues, with a transfer embargo hampering their summer recruitment.

However, Wayne Rooney's Rams have only lost one of their five Championship games this season.

The visitors are unbeaten in three games, having drawn against Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest in their past two outings.

Harrogate Town are leading the way in the fourth tier and are looking to carry on their unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Simon Weaver's side, who finished 17th last season on their debut in the EFL, are the only side yet to suffer defeat in League Two.

The Sulphurites welcome Newport County to the EnviroVent Stadium, with the Welsh side looking to register a first win in three league outings.

Elsewhere, Barrow are aiming to make it back-to-back wins against Colchester United, who have one win and three draws from their five games.

Both those games kick off at 19:45 BST.
