Steven: Shearer the best of the lot for me. The fact he turned Ferguson down twice makes his legacy even better for me as a Newcastle fan. Genuine world class, the best number 9 England have ever produced - by a country mile.

There we go, then. Some tough groups there and interesting to read the thumps up/down ratios. Groups A and C into triple figure thumbs ups.

You've got half an hour until voting for the group stage closes. Remember to send in your favourite player thoughts, and maybe even tell us your favourite moments from your favourite players, via #bbcfootball.

Okay then, without further delay let's have a look at the groups and then cast your vote via the top of the page or head here

  20. How has the list been drawn up?published at 09:04 British Summer Time 11 August 2021

There's undoubtedly some names that are not on this list that some people feel should be, believe me I pushed hard to get Steve Mounie on there, but here's how we came to our list of 48.

First off, they all have to have scored at least 15 goals in a season. Then our team of football journalists considered other factors such as overall impact in the top flight, longevity and accolades won.

Then we whittled down to the 48 you see here. Like I say, it may not be definitive, but cast your vote and then tell us why we are idiots for not including certain players via #bbcfootball.
