I've got us down for getting 18 points in this group. Whether that will be enough to finish second, I don't know. It's all going to come down to Austria on Tuesday

Scotland have to take the points this evening. No other result will be acceptable. Scotland and Steve Clarke need a good performance. The first 45 minutes against Denmark was abject

  5. Dismay after Danish defeatpublished at 18:40 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Scotland v Moldova (19:45)

A 2-0 defeat away to Denmark is no disgrace. After all, the Danes reached the last four at the Euros and are ranked the 11th best nation in the world at the moment.

But the nature of the goals lost in a calamitous first half was a worry and manager Steve Clarke's starting formation came in for some flak.

Things improved after the interval, with a shuffle of personnel, but the game was out of reach by then, with Denmark coasting somewhat.

  6. As it stands...published at 18:37 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Scotland v Moldova (19:45)

Scotland dropped two places after Wednesday's loss in Copenhagen.

With Israel and Austria meeting this evening, this is a chance to make up some ground. A draw in Haifa would be handy.

It looks like Denmark are running away with it, doesn't it? They shouldn't have any problems in the Faroe Islands.

  8. A 'must-win' for Scotlandpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 4 September 2021

    Scotland v Moldova (19:45)

With just one win from four matches, it's time for Scotland to start putting points on the board in the bid to reach next year's World Cup.

First place, and automatic qualification, looks like a tall order after defeat in Denmark, but there is still a play-off place to chase.

Three points against Moldova at Hampden this evening is essential, with Tuesday's biggie away to Austria looming.
