  1. Relief in Premiership return?published at 22:42 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

Let's bring this sobering night for Scottish football to a close.

Celtic and Rangers both lie bottom of the Europa League groups and face an uphill task to rescue their knockout stage hopes.

For now, though, they will focus on their domestic title challenges.

Leaders Rangers entertain second-top Hibernian on Sunday, with Celtic visiting troubled Aberdeen.

Before then, join us for coverage of four Premiership games and a near full programme in the other three senior divisions on Saturday.

    Bye for now...

  2. 'Celtic have to be better despite rebuild'published at 22:34 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    FT: Celtic 0-4 Bayer Leverkusen

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is demanding a reaction in Sunday's Premiership game against Aberdeen.

"To walk away tonight losing 4-0, all of us are disappointed in the dressing room - we need to have a reaction," he tells BT Sport.

"It shouldn’t have been a 4-0 game. We’ve got to be a stronger mentality towards the end of the game. Losing a fourth goal was completely unnecessary.

"We’ve got to keep persevering. We’ve had a number of injuries, we’ve had to rebuild the squad, it’s not surprising it’s taking time. But, within all that, it should be better."

  3. 'It wasn't good enough' - Postecogloupublished at 22:31 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    FT: Celtic 0-4 Bayer Leverkusen

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says the difference between his side and Leverkusen was the quality of finishing from the German visitors.

"We had some great chances and the story was in both boxes," he tells BT Sport. "They were clinical, we were wasteful. We made some mistakes that you can't make at this level.

"Kyogo is disappointed. He’ll feel he should have done better in some situations. Their keeper’s pulled off some unbelievable saves. It’s good to have McGregor and Kyogo back, but it wasn’t enough tonight."

  4. Favourites Lyon ease to victorypublished at 22:25 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    FT: Lyon 3-0 Brondby

Tracking back to Group A, it is favourites Lyon in control of that one, with Rangers at the bottom.

Lyon built on their 2-0 opening-day win at Ibrox by wearing down Brondby for a 3-0 victory in France.

The Danes were level at the break, but two goals in seven minutes from Cameroon striker Karl Toko Ekambi were followed by a late third from Houssem Aouar.

  5. Everyone believes in manager - McGregorpublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    FT: Celtic 0-4 Bayer Leverkusen

Asked about Ange Postecoglou's attacking style of football, which has now conceded eight goals in two Europa League group games, captain Callum McGregor adds: "It’s a very, very high demanding style of football.

"It takes time for the players to understand where to move and when to move.

"In the defensive transition is where we have struggled. Everyone is together and everyone believes in what the manager is trying to do."

  6. McGregor laments missed chancespublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    FT: Celtic 0-4 Bayer Leverkusen

Callum McGregor was pleased to be back from injury for Celtic, but the captain has been left lamenting the missed chances that contributed to an unhappy finish against Leverkusen.

"It was a difficult game against a really high-level opponent," he tells BT Sport. "At this level, the game is decided in moments when you don't take your chances.

"I thought that was a theme of the game. We dominated the ball well, but in the moments that matter, we have to be better They have real quality and they can expose you on the counter-attack like they did."

Celtic did have that spell when they were playing well and everyone loved the style. But the fact is they've had really poor results. Rogic and Turnbull are two players you absolutely want in your team, but you have to find a way to play them together for the defensive side too

  8. Betis join Germans in controlpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    FT: Ferencvaros 1-3 Real Betis

Real Betis join Leverkusen at the top of Group G after their own convincing win in Hungary.

After Ferencvaros' Myrto Uzuni cancelled out Nabil Fekir's opener just before the break, an own goal from Henry Wingo restored the lead before a late settler from Cristian Tello.

Leverkusen and the Spaniards are now six points clear of Ferencvaros and Celtic.

The highlight of the night for me was watching Bayer Leverkusen playing on the counter-attack. This is a top team and it was a real team effort. I'll be surprised if they don't do well this year again. They've got a great mix of players

  11. Long haul back for Old Firmpublished at 22:04 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

Well, that was a complete downer for Scottish football.

Both of the country's so-called giants have been brought down to size and sit bottom of their respective Europa League group tables.

Rangers ended the early kick-off with 10 men in Czech Republic as they lost 1-0 to Sparta Prague before Celtic were thumped 4-0 at home to Leverkusen.

So much to do if either of the Old Firm sides are to recover and qualify for the knock-out stage.

  13. FULL-TIME Celtic 0-4 Bayer Leverkusenpublished at 21:54 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

The referee's whistle ends the agony for Celtic and they are left bottom of Europa League Group G after two successive defeats.

Two games in which they have conceded four goals.

Leverkusen go top, two first-half defensive errors allowing Piero Hincapie and Florian Wirtz to build a healthy lead.

A Lucas Alario penalty and fine finish from Amine Adli piled on the pain for Ange Postecoglou's beleaguered home side.
