Ansu Fati's first League start in nearly a year. And the teenager marked it with a goal.

Sergio Aguero's first La Liga appearance since he scored a hat-trick against Mallorca for Atletico Madrid as a 22-year-old back in May 2011.

The comeback kids, young and old.

But this is where I sign off.

    Until next time....

  2. Next up for Valenciapublished at 22:02 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    FT: Barcelona 3-1 Valencia

Valencia, for whom Goncalo Guedes and Carlos Soler were the star performers, have Mallorca next weekend. Their season started well but the momentum is leaking away...

  3. Seventh, not quite heavenpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    FT: Barcelona 3-1 Valencia

That result moves Barcelona up to seventh in La Liga. And it doesn't look too shabby for them in the league really. They are two points off second-placed Real Madrid, five off Real Socidad, having played a game less.

This is the start of a big week though.

Barca play Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday after 3-0 defeats in both their opening Champions League group games.

And then it is Real Madrid in El Classico next Sunday.

    Tasty.

    Barcelona 3-1 Valencia

The crowd want to see Sergio Aguero score. They won't. Full-time.

  5. Postpublished at 90+2 mins

    Barcelona 3-1 Valencia

Jordi Alba swings his left peg free and easy, like he's got the driver out on the range. Great connection from 30 yards out but the ball flies high, high and out of bounds behind the Valencia goal.

Another three minutes added on at the end of the 90...

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 87 mins

    Barcelona 3-1 Valencia

Here comes Sergio Aguero to make his first appearance for Barcelona.

He trots on, looks about, still no sign of Leo, and takes his place up front. Sergino Dest makes way.

GOAL - Barcelona 3-1 Valenciapublished at 85 mins

    Philippe Coutinho

Game over. That is the match on toast for the Catalans.

Serginho Dest squares the ball in from the right flanks and Philippe Coutinho has all the time in the world to control, hesitate and then finally slot past the goalkeeper.

  9. Postpublished at 84 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Sergio Busquets brings down Marcos Andre, 35 yards out and central. Too far out for a shot? Probably. But Maxi Gomez's ego is writing cheques.

The Uruguayan's effort is decent; low, curling and just off target. But it would have to be extra special to score from there.

  10. YELLOW CARD - Valencia's Maxi Gomezpublished at 82 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Maxi Gomez flaps his hand into the face of Frenkie de Jong as the pair tussle in midfield. A caution.

  11. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:41 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    Juventus 1-0 Roma

    Italian Serie A

All over in Serie A and Moise Kean has scored the winning goal for Juventus, inflicting a third league defeat on Jose Mourinho's Roma.

  12. Postpublished at 80 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Here we go. The match suddenly gets stretched.

Carlos Soler breaks in behind down the left wing for Valencia, but can only find Gerard Pique with his cut-back. At the other end, Sergio Dest's feet are faster than his brain and he runs out of pitch and coordination after a rapid break.

  13. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Those changes have disrupted the rhythm of the match. Still plenty to play for though. Barcelona are far from home and hosed. And an agitated voice on the home bench makes that very point...

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 76 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Valencia take off Goncalo Guedes and Dimitri Foulquier with Denis Cheryshev and Yunes Musah coming on in thier place.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 70 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

A double change for Barcelona as Gavi and Sergi Roberto give way to Oscar Mingueza and Nico Gonzalez.

  16. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Philippe Coutinho is trying to pull strings and beat men but, as has been the case with much of his career in Catalonia, it hasn't quite worked.

That is better from the Brazilian. His low cross is gathered by Jasper Cillessen just in front of Frenkie de Jong. Nice idea.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 63 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Valencia's Dimitri Foulquier stamps his big size nines on Gavi's instep and gets a slice of yellow from the referee.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 58 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Both teams make a change with former Liverpool man Philippe Coutinho coming on in place of Ansu Fati, who has been really impressive in his first league start in nearly a year, for the hosts.

Valencia bring on young Brazilian striker Marcos Andre in place of Hugo Duro.

  19. Postpublished at 57 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Wrists of concrete! Marc ter Stegen fends a rasping effort from Valencia's Goncalo Guedes into the sky and gathers at the second attempt.

  20. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Barcelona 2-1 Valencia

Valencia have had Barcelona boxed into their own defensive third in the last couple of minutes...

A goal for the visitors would get some nerves jangling and some regulars moaning in the Nou Camp.
