A fine Elche move ends with Lucas Boye firing into the side-netting after latching on to a deep cross from the right.

Johan Mojica runs at Marco Asensio, who wins the ball and switches it to the opposite flank.

Toni Kroos spreads it out to Lucas Vazquez, whose low cross finds Asensio in the Elche box but the first-half substitute fails to make proper contact, scuffing his shot wide.

Kroos then has a shot blocked. Relentless pressure from the visitors.

Ouch!

Elche manage to clear Toni Kroos' corner but Johan Mojica collides with Lucas Boye and stays down.

It was a nasty collision but the full-back eventually gets to his feet and gives a thumbs up in the direction of the bench.

Enzo Roco clears Lucas Vazquez's inswinging delivery out for a Real corner.

The hosts manage to clear their lines but Real recycle possession and Roco has to make another fine block to deny Marcelo.

It's been an eventful week in La Liga and for Barcelona in particular. The Blaugrana relieved head coach Ronald Koeman of his duties late on Wednesday after losing 1-0 at Rayo Vallecano, placing Sergi Barjuan in temporary charge.

Former midfielder Xavi has been heavily linked with the role on a permanent basis but insists he is "fully focus" on his job in charge of Qatari side Al Sadd.

As it stands, Real are heading back to the top of La Liga on goal difference.

There's a long way to go yet. Great entertainment so far, with chances at both ends.

Real lead - somewhat fortuitously - at the interval.

Two minutes added on at the end of the first half.

Not for the first time this afternoon, Lucas Boye finds space down the right and picks out fellow Argentine Lucas Perez.

Perez's touch is a heavy one, though, allowing Lucas Vazquez to hack the ball clear.

More pressure from the hosts as David Alaba clears another dangerous-looking ball for a corner.

But it's another poor set-piece delivery from Lucas Perez, whose cross doesn't beat the first man.

Elche have certainly found their feet again in the last few minutes. The hosts have arguably created the two best chances of the game but find themselves behind as we approach half-time.

Time for another goal before the break?

It really should be 1-1.

Lucas Boye does tremendously well to outmuscle David Alaba before getting his cross off. Javier Pastore flicks the loose ball into the path of Lucas Perez, who somehow scuffs his shot off target with the goal gaping.

A glaring miss.

Thibaut Courtois is forced into action this time as Lucas Boye tries his luck from the edge of the area.

It's an easy save for the Belgian, though.

Another dangerous left-wing cross - this time from Fidel - almost finds Lucas Boye but instead reaches Raul Guti on the edge of the Real box.

The midfielder tries his luck but gets his shot all wrong, sending the ball well wide of the goal.

Elche are by no means out of this, but they are leaving one or two gaps at the back for Real to exploit.

Marcelo gets to the bye-line before lifting in a cross towards Mariano, but Johan Mojica is first to the ball and clears the danger.

Nearly a tremendous goal from Mariano.

The striker beats his marker down the right before sidestepping goalkeeper Kiko Casilla. He runs out of room though and can only send his shot into the side-netting.

That goal has knocked the wind out of Elche's sails somewhat.

The hosts were doing well prior to Vinicius Jr's goal but the hosts have retreated inside their shells. Real are searching for a second.
