A third of the way through this Championship campaign already, what do you make of how both ends of the table are shaping up?

Are we going to see some bolters from mid-table put a run together and spring into gear or are the pace-setters going to pull further away?

    Five matches produce few goals

    Ched EvansImage source, PA Media

Tuesday night saw five other Championship fixtures. Goals were in short supply, but incidents weren't.

Three goalless draws between Blackpool and West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Luton and Coventry and Birmingham did include their moments of debate as Forest survived a red card to Jack Colback as Brice Samba saved a penalty from Luton's Elijah Adebayo.

West Brom lost the chance to make up ground on the top two as their winless run stretched to three matches.

Birmingham survived the last 14 minutes with only 10 men against Coventry after Ryan Woods was given a straight red card.

The Sky Blues missed the chance to climb to third as they failed to score at home for the first time this season.

In the games where there were goals, Preston came from behind to beat Middlesbrough at the Riverside and leave new Boro boss Chris Wilder still searching for his first win.

Meanwhile at The SCL Stadium, Jayden Bogle's second-half volley saw Sheffield United beat Reading in a game overshadowed by lengthy "urgent medical care" to Blades midfielder John Fleck.

The Scotland midfielder collapsed on the pitch in the second half, but was conscious and sitting up after being taken by ambulance to hospital straight from the ground.

Fulham are in pole position after they beat Barnsley on Saturday and Bournemouth suffered a first away defeat of the season on Sunday at bottom-placed Derby.

Stoke and QPR have chances to move up the table if they can pick up victories this evening.

At the other end, all of the bottom six except Reading are in action.

Derby will be hoping to reclaim more of their deducted points while Barnsley have new boss Poya Asbaghi in charge for the first time when they host Swansea.

Cardiff and Hull play each other while Peterborough could move out of the bottom three if results go their way both there and from their trip to Blackburn.

Let's start at the top, where leaders Fulham take on bottom-of-the-table Derby.

The Cottagers certainly won't be underestimating the Rams, who came from behind to beat Bournemouth at home on Sunday 3-2 as they try and plot the greatest of great escapes despite being deducted points for a second time this season.

Talking of Bournemouth, Scott Parker takes his side south of the river to face Millwall who have lost just once in their past six.

But the Cherries will be keen to bounce back after that first away defeat of the term on Sunday.

Stoke City have the chance to try and catch up ground on the top two when they take on Bristol City. The Robins' struggles at home this season have been well-documented so Michael O'Neill will be looking to capitalise on those nerves.

Two sides who've perhaps so far performed above expectations in QPR and Huddersfield go head-to-head at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium as they look to settle into the play-off pack.

While at Oakwell, a new era for Barnsley begins against Swansea with new boss Poya Asbaghi taking charge of the hosts for the first time.

Elsewhere, Cardiff City host Hull City with both coming off the back of vital wins on Saturday and Blackburn host Peterborough at Ewood Park.
