England captain Leah Williamson: "I can't stop crying. We talk and we talk and we've finally done it. It's the proudest moment of my life. I'm taking in every single second because I'll want to relive this for a long time.

"The legacy of this tournament is a change in society. We have brought people together, brought people to games. We want people at WSL games. Sorry I'm screaming but I love every single one of you and I'm so proud to be English!"

  3. England players finally leave the pitch!published at 20:55 British Summer Time 31 July 2022

It's more than an hour after the game ended and the England players have finally left the pitch - Ellen White the last one to do so.

They had sat there in small groups or just on their own, taking in what an historic achievement it has been.

The presentation platform is being dismantled and the glitter/confetti is being gathered up by the groundsmen.

Wow, what an ending to a brilliant Euros that has broken so many records and changed so many perceptions!

The subs in the 85th minute, her experience. She was doing professional fouls, winning the ball, calming play down. The last five minutes the ball was barely in play. England swallowed the ball. As a manager, I was super proud and excited to see that, it showed so much maturity.

So many people have been involved to get women’s football to this point, to see this trophy. This is what we’ve all been dreaming of. The amount of investment in the game to get us to this point.

This moment reminds me of the 1999 Women’s World Cup when USA won that. It changed the face of soccer in America forever. I feel this is a moment in England. This is the moment.

Chloe Kelly's celebration when she scored what turned out to be the tournament winner - namely whipping her shirt off and swinging it wildly above her head - was very reminiscent of the USA's Brandi Chastain.

She did the same back in 1999 to secure the USA's World Cup triumph. It has been an iconic image in women's sport for more than two decades and now we have a new one - brilliant!

The majority of England players haven’t felt that downtrodden feeling of being underdogs against perennial heavyweights. They’ve led the line.

The England squad are still on the pitch and Lucy Bronze and Jill Scott have done a warm-down jog with one of the coaches - with their winners' medals swinging around their necks of course.

Wembley is emptying pretty quickly now but what memories for those who witnessed history in the stadium - and what a huge effect this amazing win will have on the women's game and women's sport in general.

And yes I have got a tear in my eye!

Some of the players have just been making angel shapes in the confetti. Millie Brght and Jill Scott are dancing with a flag and Ellen White has taken a moment to herself in the middle of the pitch to soak it all in. Wow. These scenes are incredible.

I hadn't worked with Beth Mead before. Same with Sarina Wiegman. She could start with a fresh piece of paper on club and national level. She’s benefitted from that.

It comes to clearness and communication. I spoke to some of my players before the Euros. Sarina Wiegman had one-to-one talks with each of them – 'I see you as a starter, I see you as a impact player'.

They knew before they were coming in what was expected of them. Once I heard that I immediately had a feeling this is going to be a great Euros for England. They won’t waste energy on those conversations when they’re in the tournament.
