Rangers will be back in action on Sunday when they go to St Mirren on league duty.

"The players delivered the game plan we set out," Rangers boss Steven Gerrard tells BT Sport. "You can pick the bones out little moments but, in the main, we controlled, we dominated. It's really close to the 90-minute performance we've been looking for.

"The substitutes were excellent, they brought energy and helped us control the game in the final moments.

"The first goal put us in a good place, but we haven't been scoring enough ugly goals. That's why Kemar Roofe is in the team. If you are a number nine they are the ones that get you big, big goals.

"Joe Aribo's first 45-minute performance was outstanding. That's probably why he tired a little bit. If he can find that performance consistently over 90 minutes, we'll be lucky to keep hold of him.

"We've kick-started our Europa League campaign. The first two results weren't good enough. We've got to replicate this performance and result in a couple weeks time. If we do it's going to be very interesting. We've given ourselves a good chance. If we get out this group it'll be a superb job."

After three rounds of group fixtures, Brondby are the only team in the competition yet to score a goal.

Asked about speculation linking him with Newcastle, Steven Gerrard answers with a broad smile: "Do I look happy? Do I look settled?

"Don't ask me silly questions then."

Like most people at Ibrox and watching on the telly, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is stunned that VAR did not award a penalty for a clear trip on Joe Aribo.

He tells BT Sport: "I thought it was a penalty at the time and I've seen it back. VAR has missed one."

Joe Aribo was a real thorn in the side of Brondby in the first half. He was at the heart of everything positive for Rangers.

The only bum note on a good night for the hosts is an apparent hamstring problem for Leon Balogun.

Fellow central defender Filip Helander is currently sidelined until December.

Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo tells BT Sport: “We knew how important this result was. Now we want to kick on.

“We knew we needed to start the game fast, keep pushing, and we’re just happy we got that performance and three points.

“The three points are massive. We just hope to go again and hopefully get that result over in Denmark.”

Asked if he he should have had a penalty for a second-half trip, Aribo smiles and says: "I think so."

It's just finished over in Prague and Sparta did snatch a goal back in the 96th minute, making it 4-3 to 10-man Lyon.

Rangers go to Denmark in a fortnight and, on this evidence, they will fancy their chances of doing the double over Brondby.

That would set them up for a good crack at clinching second place in Group A since Lyon may be too far ahead to catch.

Job done for Rangers - and comfortably.

Leon Balogun and Kemar Roofe scored in the first half, with the Ibrox team keeping the Danes at bay quite easily after the interval.

Scott Arfield went close to adding to the tally and the home side really should have had a penalty for a trip on Joe Aribo, who was the star of the show.
