  3. Leaders Rovers return to actionpublished at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

    League Two preview

It's been a 22-day wait for leaders Forest Green Rovers to get back out on the grass, after four consecutive call-offs in League Two.

Their last outing was a 5-5 draw with Oldham on 11 December, although they remain four points clear at the top going into today's visit of struggling Stevenage to the New Lawn.

Elsewhere, Northampton Town have the chance to continue their remarkable ascent from 14th after 11 games to second in the table after 21, after eight wins in those 10 matches.

They travel to fellow promotion hopefuls Swindon Town today.

Struggling Uniteds, both Scunthorpe and Carlisle, are paired in a foot-of-the-table 'six-pointer' in North Lincolnshire, as currently the Cumbrians are only spared a place in the bottom two by goal difference.

Fans of alliteration will be buoyed by Barrow v Bradford and Crawley v Colchester, while elsewhere, Hartlepool host Oldham, Sutton welcome Exeter, and Walsall entertain Newport County.

  4. Millers eye top spotpublished at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

    League One preview

Rotherham United can go back to the top of the League One table if they beat Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

The Millers lost their 22-game unbeaten record in the Boxing Day defeat by Accrington, but come up against a Trotters side who have lost their past six on the road. Good omens indeed.

Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers can get the jump on their promotion rivals with good results against Cheltenham and Charlton respectively, while MK Dons can keep their pursuit of the play-off spots with success at home to Gillingham.

Crewe Alexandra have found some form to boost their bid to climb away from the relegation zone with two wins in their last three league games, and they make the short trip to Staffordshire to face Burton Albion.

  5. Can Blackpool get back on track?published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

    Blackpool v Hull (15:00 GMT)

Having had a decent start to the season on their return to English football's second tier, Blackpool have faltered of late.

They welcome Hull today with just one win under their belt in their past 10 games, with Wednesday's home defeat by Middlesbrough piling on the misery to their festive season, having already lost 3-2 away at Huddersfield on Boxing Day.

Hull on the other hand, started the season poorly but strung together four wins in a row in November.

But the Tigers travel to Bloomfield Road this afternoon having not played since 18 December.

Can they get back on track?

  6. Just the one Championship game todaypublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 1 January 2022

    Sheff Utd P-P Middlesbrough

We should have two games to bring you in the Championship today but yet another one bit the dust yesterday as Sheffield United's encounter against Middlesbrough was the latest to be affected by Covid-19.

This is in addition to Coventry against Luton being called off earlier on and Swansea's match against Fulham on Monday being postponed.

In a statement, Middlesbrough said their squad had been "decimated by positive tests for Covid-19", leaving them "in an impossible situation regarding available players".

That leaves Blackpool v Hull as today's solitary second tier fixture.

Having stopped up until 3am after watching the entirety of Jools' Annual Hootenanny and all of the classic Glastonbury highlights afterwards on BBC Two, I am feeling pretty tired.

What better way to perk myself up than some action across the English Football League?

Covid-19 may have forced a number of postponements upon us, but there's plenty to play for up and down the EFL.

    Kick-off's coming soon.
