A thrilling first half. Karim Benzema's volley is the difference at the break.

Ferland Mendy catches Angel Correa with a raised arm and gets shown a yellow card. Harsh decision that.

    This half has flown by.

  8. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Antoine Griezmann looks to get in behind but Eder Militao is able to sweep up the danger.

Real Madrid have absorbed everything Atletico have thrown at them so far. The visitors will need to change something at the break.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Not much to talk about on the pitch though as Real are happy to play keep-ball whenever they regain possession.

Two different people on the work chat have both demanded a Diego-Simeone-cam.

I agree. Who do I email to make this happen? The Argentinian hasn't sat down all half.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

All Real now as Vinicius Junior dances into the box before firing a shot against the side-netting.

Atleti are on the ropes with seven to go until the break.

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 37 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

That's the first card. I'm surprised it's taken this long as Atleti's Felipe takes out Vinicius Junior to break up a counter.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 35 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

    What a stop.

Antoine Griezmann curls the free-kick towards the top corner but Thibaut Courtois is there to push the ball behind. Top save.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Ah, just as I say that Luka Modric is penalised for pushing over Matheus Cunha on the edge of the box.

    Free-kick, no penalty.

A very dangerous position as Atleti look for a leveller.

  15. Postpublished at 32 mins

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Luka Modric is a cheat code. Surrounded by four opponents he beats them all with one Cruyff turn.

Real's possession comes to nothing, but the crowd don't seem to care. Modric almost gets a standing ovation for that move.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone is furious with Yanick Carrasco who doesn't track back after losing the ball.

Meanwhile Antoine Griezmann is down after a heavy challenge from Daniel Carvajal.

The Madrid derby is back people!

GOAL - PSG 2-0 Monacopublished at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2021

    Kylian Mbappe

We were just about to write about how Monaco are digging in but they've just thrown their shovel away.

They gift PSG possession on halfway and Lionel Messi leads the charge, running at his man with an inevitable pass to Kylian Mbappe on offer as soon as he gets closed down.

Messi gets shut down, he shifts the ball left and Mbappe takes a touch before whipping home his second. Ruthless stuff.

    PSG 1-0 Monaco

    Just joining us?

A certain Kylian Mbappe made no mistake from the spot to give Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain an early lead.

But Gianluigi Donnrumma hasn't been stood watching and Monaco - who came into the game off back-to-back wins - seem intent on making a fight of it.

PSG of course are so far ahead in the French top flight that not even a Formula 1 safety car could ruin their procession.
