The visitors lie 31st in the world rankings, nine places below the Scots, and have only reached a major finals once - the Euros in 2009.
They came close to reaching Euro 2022 after finishing behind Germany and ahead of Republic of Ireland in their qualifying group, but were thumped 4-1 on aggregate by Northern Ireland in the play-offs.
Ukraine have a new head coach, Luis Cortes, who takes the team for the first time tonight.
Scotland forward Lisa Evans is braced for a "scrappy, really physical" contest.
"Ukraine are going to be really tricky," Evans said. "They're a really experienced team. They make the play-offs continuously."

Abi Harrison is made in Scotland - from girders.
The Bristol City striker will have a thirst for goals on her first start for her country tonight.
And here she is back in her Hibs days in 2016, when she had the honour of having her name emblazoned on bottles of Scotland's national drink.
Scotland v Ukraine (19:35)
Tonight is a big one for Scotland's qualification hopes as their campaign hits the halfway stage.
Only the group winners automatically go through, and rampant pacesetters Spain will take some stopping.
But second place guarantees a play-off, and victory tonight would open a nine-point gap over Ukraine, albeit they have a game in hand.

It's an incredibly cold and blustery night at the national stadium, though it's at least dry for the players.
Pedro Martinez Losa was upbeat after the friendly defeat by Sweden last month and makes just two tweaks to the XI.
Lucy Graham was impressive in midfield against the world's second best side and retains her place at the base of the three. She'll be key as Scotland aim to be better in possession than they were against Hungary.

Both sides are led by a Spaniard, with Pedro Martinez Losa describing his Ukraine counterpart Lluis Cortes as a "brilliant coach".
Cortes led Barcelona to a domestic double and the Women's Champions League last season and takes charge of Ukraine for the first time tonight.
"He will probably try to implement all of the philosophy, concepts and experience he had at Barcelona," Martinez Losa said of his countryman.
"I am sure he will do a fantastic job, but we have the opportunity to compete and see what he can do in just a few training sessions and one camp and we will be ready for that."

Abi Harrison makes her first start for Scotland this evening, and her first appearance in dark blue since March 2019.
The Bristol City striker wins her fourth cap against Ukraine, and is one of five changes in Pedro Martinez Losa's side from their last qualifier against Hungary last month.
Chloe Arthur starts in defence, and Hibernian Rachael Boyle - who can be deployed in any position - may also be in the backline, with Rachael McLauchlan and Nicola Docherty dropping to the bench.
Everton's Lucy Graham and Arsenal's Lisa Evans take their place in midfield instead of Lisa Robertson and Claire Emslie, with Rangers forward Jane Ross also among the substitutes.

A 7-1 Hampden rout of the Faroe Islands was bookended by home and away victories over Hungary to give the Scots maximum points from three games in Group B.
Scotland trail their Spanish manger's homeland by three points, after they thrashed the Faroes 12-0 yesterday, with a blockbuster showdown looming between the top two on Tuesday in Seville.
