  12. 'Only one team have never lost - The Gambia'published at 15:58 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

The Gambia v Cameroon (16:00 GMT)

The Gambia manager Tom Saintfiet to BBC Sport: "The word team is probably the most important word. We don’t have a star player. We don’t always select our best players.

"We have focused on selecting the best team. The team who played against Guinea had players from the fourth division of Denmark and fifth division of Switzerland. It’s a mix of players from different levels and different backgrounds.

"When I started in 2018 they had won the last competitive match five years before my arrival. We built something totally new. We made our staff more professional. Now we have a team who know exactly what to do.

"There are 44 countries to play in the Africa Cup of Nations and only one country have never lost and that's The Gambia. If we want to keep that record going we have to beat Cameroon. Playing the host in an Afcon quarter-final is somthing you might experience just once in a lifetime."

Only two men have scored for The Gambia in Cameroon - and only one is playing today.

Ablie Jallow, who plays for Seraing in Belgium, scored the only goal in the 1-0 wins over Mauritania and Tunisia in the group stages.

    He's injured for this one.

Bologna's Musa Barrow netted the equaliser against Mali and the only goal against Guinea in the last 16.

An emotional moment for The Gambia as they line up for the national anthem as the quarter-final of a major tournament. Nobody really expected them to make it this far.

  15. Cameroon's run to the quarterspublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2022

The Gambia v Cameroon (16:00 GMT)

Cameroon booked their place in the last 16 after just two games - wins over Burkina Faso (2-1) and Ethiopia (4-1) - before drawing with Cape Verde in their final group game.

They faced an unorthodox last 16 tie against Comoros, who had to put a left-back - Chaker Alhadhur - in goal for the whole game, and only won 2-1.

That game was sadly overshadowed by the tragedy outside.

Cameroon's Sports Ministry is hopeful the Olembe Stadium can host matches again at the Africa Cup of Nations after filing its report into Monday's fatal crush to the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

Eight supporters, including an eight-year-old boy, lost their lives outside the stadium on Monday before Cameroon's win over Comoros.

The ministry has adopted a raft of measures, including a ban on children under 11 attending games, it believes will enhance safety.

"We filed the report on Friday and now we are waiting," Narcisse Mouelle Kombi told BBC Sport Africa.

Caf has previously said it will not consider using Yaounde's Olembe Stadium, earmarked to host a semi-final and the final itself, until it received the report.

The BBC has asked Caf it has received the report but has yet to hear back.

The Gambia goalkeeper Baboucarr Gaye told BBC Sport Africa: "It is going to be a different experience if there's 45,000 people in the stadium screaming for that one team who is running up on your goal.

"It is also a kind of motivation if you feel everyone is against you, it also gives you energy. We are trying to take that to do our best and hopefully after our game the stadium will be quiet and we can celebrate.

"They have a lot of decent players in their squad. We'll try to stop them from scoring a goal, but if we score one, we can probably win a game and that's our plan."
