Speaking ahead of kick-off, Wales manager Rob Page told S4C: "Wes has been in this system before and it goes to show he's not forgotten about and he's impressed every member of staff, he'll grab the opportunity with both hands.

"This is an important game but we have to think of Sunday as well.

"I said coming into camp we need a big squad because of the number of games and quality of opposition.

Ukraine's World Cup dream about more than football

Ukraine legend Andriy Shevchenko says tonight's World Cup play-off semi-final against Scotland is "much more than football for us right now".

Ukraine are bidding to reach a second World Cup since independence in 1991.

Originally set for 24 March, the match was moved by world governing body Fifa following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"The Scotland match is the hope of the country," the former Chelsea striker, who managed the national team at Euro 2020, told BBC Sport.

"Going to the World Cup is very important for Ukraine right now.

"The motivation is incredible. In my opinion, we need to put the result away and just focus on the game.

"We need to play for the fans, for the whole of Ukraine, for those at home, for those defending the country and for those who left the country."

The winners of the game in Glasgow will face Wales in Cardiff on Sunday for a place at November's World Cup in Qatar.

This is Wales’ first fixture at the highest level of the Nations League, having won Group B4 in 2020 to earn promotion.

It’s a hectic start to life in the top flight for Wales, who face four Nations League matches and a World Cup play-off in the space of 13 days.

After the match against Poland on Wednesday, Wales return to Cardiff to face Scotland or Ukraine four days later as they aim to qualify for a first World Cup since 1958.

Page’s men then have back-to-back Nations League matches at Cardiff City Stadium against the Netherlands and Belgium on 8 and 11 June, before finishing this window with a trip to Rotterdam to face the Dutch on 14 June.
