Went for a meal in Bradford the other night and ordered a Vimto to go with the triple dripper meal.

They brought me a Coke from their dispenser instead.

    Fuming!

    It's a balmy 34C in Yerevan today.

It means the two sides come to the side of the pitch for a drinks break.

    Mine's a Vimto, thanks.

Armenia lost their last match 9-0 against Norway, btw.

Arman Hovhannisyan was sent off after 17 minutes which sparked the collapse.

He's managed to stay on the pitch today.

Shane Duffy trots forward but heads over from an outswinging corner.

Got to go all the way back up the pitch again.

Armenia's manager is vastly experienced Spaniard Joaquin Caparros.

Looking at his Wikipedia page, you have to scroll quite a bit to get through the list of all his clubs.

I make this his 19th different job, though he has returned to Sevilla on a couple of occasion.

  8. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Armenia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

The Republic are starting to work some nice moves.

Rotherham's Chiedozie Ogbene showcases his pace to get in behind and then picks out Callum Robinson on the penalty spot, but he doesn't quite catch it properly and the sprawling Hovhanne Hambardzumyan clears off the line.

    Armenia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Some of the Republic fans thought it was in.

Callum Robinson latches on to a through ball and takes the shot quickly from the angle and it ripples the net...from the outside.

A good move from the visitors.

    Armenia 0-0 Republic of Ireland

Armenia number 11 Tigran Barseghyan is the home side's dangerman.

He looks to catch out Caoimhim Kelleher from a very long way out, but sends his effort wide.

A poor challenge from Shane Duffy, earning himself a very early booking after lunging in on Tigran Barseghyan.

The Republic defender wasn't helped though by Seamus Coleman's loose pass in the middle of the park.

It's Armenia that are doing all the running in the opening stages.

Eduard Spertsyan makes a clever run into the box and a low thumping shot is blocked well by Shane Duffy.

First shot at goal comes from the home side and the roof almost comes off.

Tigran Barseghyan rasps an early snapshot from the edge of the area and goalkeeper Caoimhim Kelleher has to deal with it low down to his right.

The stadium houses less than 15,000 supporters and it is less than full but those inside are making a terrific amount of noise.

We've got a keen drummer in too, he/she is giving it a right hammering.

Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny has defended his side's record in the Nations League as they attempt to win their first game in the competition.

The Republic have drawn five and lost five of their 10 Nations League games.

"We had a situation where after coming back from a Euro play-off, we had to play Wales," said Kenny.

"We had a call late at night to say that five of the starting XI couldn't play because they were close contacts and two of the players on the plane couldn't play.

"We were one of the few countries at the time that were adopting those rules on close contacts - two metres - so for two [international] windows we really had minus 10 players.

"In difficult circumstances, all of the games were either drawn or lost by a goal. The players acquitted themselves well at the time considering the circumstances. It's not fair to assess that campaign at all, completely unfair."
