  1. 'Leicester had more quality'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2022

    FT: Leicester 4-1 Watford

    Watford

Watford boss Claudio Ranieri to BBC Sport: "We knew we had to play against the last winners of the FA Cup. I put some players in and gave a rest to some other players – it was the first time some of them had played together.

"It was a good match at 2-1 but after that Leicester had more quality. But I can’t say anything against my players – they made the maximum effort and well done to Leicester.

"We created something good but in the end the quality of the Leicester players told – they scored the goals and we didn’t.

"Our next three matches are very, very important and we need very good performances in them – our focus now, 100%, is on these next three matches."

    Barnsley 5-4 Barrow

Fifteen minutes of this chaotic tie to go.

I thought Barrow were out of it at 2-0 down and having had a player sent off. Cue them scoring four goals.

It just happens Barnsley's have netted five.

Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mark Bonner has done an unbelievable job. A 36-year-old English coaching who has been through from academy level to first team football.

I could see him talking to his players until the last minute and that is the fine detail of managing. What a performance and his players did him proud.

All Brighton still. Alexis Mac Allister's effort is on target but comfortable for the keeper. Solly March then tries to get a shot off but it's blocked.

  5. 'A major result'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2022

    FT: Newcastle 0-1 Cambridge

Cambridge United boss Mark Bonner, speaking to BBC Sport: "We are delighted. There is always a fairy tale and an upset in this competition, we always hoped it would be us but then saw the teamsheet and how strong they were.

"So proud, we rode our luck at times but the goalkeeper was outstanding. The fact we kept them at bay and kept a clean sheet is a major result for the team and the players and a great day out for the supporters too.

"We have to make sure we keep growing and progressing this season. We have a game Tuesday so we crack on and get ready for that but these are moments we never forget because you don't know how long until you can enjoy the next one."

  6. 'We are delighted'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2022

    FT: Newcastle 0-1 Cambridge

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Cambridge United manager Mark Bonner said: "What an occasion for the fans and the players, they can soak that up. They deserve that because it's a memory you can keep. We got promoted last year in a season in which we didn't play in front of anyone, so we didn’t get to celebrate with the supporters.

"It's an incredible football club [Newcastle] and city and I hope ours [fans] have enjoyed it and been welcomed. We had to cope with that in periods of the game where the noise got big but as the games have got bigger and the atmospheres have got louder this year, we have coped better, so we are delighted.

"We had periods of control and you have to ride your luck a bit. Our goalkeeper and defence was outstanding, so to get a clean sheet with the team they put out was brilliant."

Sad to see the Newcastle fans turning on Eddie Howe. He is a good manager and a decent human being who deserves your support. The problems at Newcastle are too big to be solved in a few weeks or with the cheque book.

    Graham, Blackpool

Not sure on Mile's opinion 17:13 - Shearer has already taken you down once. Are Newcastle really a big club yet..?

"I have got to play here and it it stuff I dreamed of, Alan Shearer was my hero, I grew up idolising him - now I have scored the winner at St James' Park. It doesn't matter how they go in, it could have been that or a worldie, I don't care.

"We have all dug in together and it is a momentous day for the football club."

On Dimitar Mitov: "He is one of the nicest kids, hardest working, he has kept us in the game with some brilliant saves. One at the end where he finger-tipped it over the bar He was outstanding.

"He works so hard and on the big stage today he has shone. It was one of those things you will never forget, a pinch me moment, just brilliant."

  14. 'We always had that belief'published at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 8 January 2022

    FT: Newcastle 0-1 Cambridge

Cambridge goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov: "It is unbelievable what we just did today, but we always knew we had nothing to lose. We need to be the best verson of ourselves and that is what we did today. We always had that belief, look at how many supporters have come, we sold out. What a way to start the year

"It is not quite down to me, if we don't score we don't win the game. But on a pesonal note I am really happy - this is why we play football, to play against the big boys, to play against the Premier League teams. I love being a goalkeeper, I love diving around for a living, I am lost for words.

"That was something I will never forget in the first half, the save from Jacob Murphy when I tipped on to the bar and even the Newcastle fans clapped me."

On goalscorer Joe Ironside: "We live together! There is no nicer person on the planet to score here. It is a really good moment for me and him, I am so happy, he deserves it.

"I am a Man Utd supporter, so I want Man Utd away!"

Great scenes in the Kidderminster Harriers dressing room - dancing, singing, just pure joy.

Boss Russell Penn comes in and tells them how proud he is of all of them and tells them "enjoy tonight, but back to work tomorrow".

They all then head back out onto the pitch to celebrate in front of the fans and do a lap of honour.

No-one is leaving the ground anytime soon.

Brighton could add a few now. Jakub Moder has been a real threat since coming on.

He has Evan Ferguson in support but goes for glory and shanks it. We can forgive him for that because he does have a goal and an assist.

Ferguson has the ball in the net a few moments later too but it's offside and won't count.

Lifelong Newcastle fan and need to get Howe out now before he ruins club. This is final straw , which will be clear he can't handle big club and it's obvious. Let's have Shearer to end of season.

    Miles Chapman. Paignton.

Fair play Cambridge, now a sole focus on Premier League survival.

    Matt P, Westbury

Kieran Trippier must feel he's walked into a nightmare here. I mean, he's come from winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid to a rich yet seriously struggling Newcastle side that has just been knocked out of the FA Cup at the third round stage by a team in League Two. That's some move that he's made.
