Nations League: Republic of Ireland 0-1 Ukraine - visitors bounce back from World Cup loss

That's Ukraine's first ever goal against the Republic of Ireland. This is the first time these sides have met.

There was a quick VAR check to see if there was an offside in the box but the goal stands.

What a mess.

Viktor Tsygankov scores just two minutes after coming off the bench.

He curls in a free-kick from the right wing which goes past everyone in the box. The bounce catches out the keeper and flies into the top corner.

Jason Knight starts this half as well as he did the first. He controls Chiedozie Ogbene's cut-back and has a shot blocked.

Five of Ireland's last six games have been goalless at half-time. Eleven of their 12 Nations League games have been.

The half-time whistle goes. The Republic of Ireland started brightly but are a bit fortunate to still be level.

Time for one more Ukraine chance but Mykola Shaparenko's 20-yard shot is saved by the Irish keeper.

Josh Cullen aims his free-kick for the head of Shane Duffy - who else? - but Ukraine clear.

Ukraine's Mykhailo Mudryk swings an arm into Josh Cullen's face off the ball and Ireland have a free-kick. It arguably should have been more.

Both keepers are off their line quickly in the space of 30 seconds to deny potential opportunities.

A clever Ukraine corner leads to a bit of pinball in the box but the Irish get away with it.

Sadly for him, the experience of scoring his first-ever international goal (on only his second cap) was short-lived.

It's a shame, too, as this game could really do with a goal.
