A man who could have been on the Bantams' radar to replace the Scot was former Newport boss and Bradford midfielder Michael Flynn.
However, the Welshman was appointed as boss at struggling Walsall this afternoon.
League Two side Port Vale have announced that manager Darrell Clarke is taking a period of leave after a close family bereavement.
"The club requests that the privacy of Darrell and his family is respected at this time," a statement read.
Darrell Clarke is taking a break following the loss of a close family member, the club have said.
