SMS Message: Pochettino, Mourinho, Conte. Nothing changes. Spurs will never win anything. Same story every year from Rob, Norwich

  2. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

That should have been game, set and match.

Steven Bergwijn gets it horribly wrong as he blazes over unmarked about 12 yards out.

He won't want to see a replay of that.

  3. 'Conte wants control'

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

    Don Hutchison

Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Antonio Conte wants control in games. He has been searching for it over the past six games or so; Spurs are very, very good going forward but they don't control games particularly well in the closing stages. That is what Conte had at Inter and why players like Bentancur have come in.

  4. SUBSTITUTION

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

Danny Welbeck cannot control a ball into the box and it trickles out of play. Brighton make another change - Evan Ferguson has come on for Jakub Moder.

    What a moment for Ferguson. He's 17.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONS

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

Solid performance by Cristian Romero who gets a decent round of applause as he makes way for Joe Rodon. Harry Winks has also been replaced by new signing Rodrigo Bentancur.

  6. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

Jeers each time former Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck gets a touch. Predictable.

Perhaps Spurs fans do feel a little safer now?

  8. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

This has been breathless. Brighton look a different team this half but Spurs have too much fire power. Kane and Son have been excellent.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONS

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

    A couple of changes.

Spurs have sent on new signing Dejan Kulusevski for Lucas Moura while Danny Welbeck is on for Brighton, who have around 20 minutes to find two goals to force extra-time.

  10. 'Incredible from Son'

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

    Don Hutchison

Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Incredible run from Son; he was so direct, he had two or three players wrapped around him. The ball trickled into the six yard box, heading towards the back of the net and Harry Kane was just too sharp for anyone else and he stabbed it home. Adam Webster didn't have the pace to live with Son.

  11. Post update

    Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

    This is a cracking tie.

Moments after Harry Kane's second goal, Neal Maupay is clean through but can only fire straight at Hugo Lloris.

  12. 'Bissouma has been sensational'

    Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

    Don Hutchison

Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

The best player on the pitch by an absolute miler, Yves Bissouma. He's been absolutely sensational. He deserves a stroke of luck; he was trying to work half a yard on the edge of the box, Romero got nowhere near him. I don't think Hojbjerg is brave enough. He turned his back on the shot. Graham Potter will have known the next goal was crucial,

  13. GOAL - Tottenham 3-1 Brighton

    Harry Kane

    Two-goal cushion restored.

And it's all because of Son Heung-min who drives at the Brighton defence. He goes past one defender and then another before Adam Webster attempts a challenge but only manages to push it into Harry Kane's path to finish from close range.

    Spurs are back in control.

    Harry Kane scores for Tottenham
  14. GOAL - Tottenham 2-1 Brighton

    Yves Bissouma

    Game on!

A driving run by Yves Bissouma across the box who then lets fly with a shot which hits Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the back and flies into the net.

It's been coming - Brighton have been much better this half.

    Yves Bissouma
  15. 'Davinson Sanchez is trying things'

    Tottenham 2-0 Brighton

    Don Hutchison

Ex-Liverpool midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is nice to see Davinson Sanchez trying one or two things. Hopefully, under Antonio Conte, his confidence starts to come back.

  16. SUBSTITUTION

    Tottenham 2-0 Brighton

A second Brighton sub but still no Danny Welbeck.

20-year-old Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo is on for Solly March.

  17. Get Involved

Nicholas Walker: This Conte style of stable productive football is alien as a Spurs fan. Normally expect the opposition to come back to win 3-2 but I feel “safe”. Worrying times!

  18. CLOSE!

    Tottenham 2-0 Brighton

Big chance for Spurs to put this to bed.

Son Heung-min bursts into the box and has Harry Kane unmarked alongside him but decides to go for goal and Robert Sanchez saves.

    That should have been 3-0.

  19. YELLOW CARD

    Tottenham 2-0 Brighton

Joel Veltman ploughs into Son Heung-min who goes down in a heap. That's going to hurt. Out comes the tie's first yellow card.

Kaeto Hernandez: Ben Davies seems to have a free role. Is he a CB, is he a CF? Does he care? He’s everywhere!
