Cracking goal that. Seem to remember him scoring a cracking volley against Manchester City back in 2012 as well.

Watford could very much do with the former Manchester United man staying fit and getting back to his best.

But before all of that how about a bit more transfer tittle-tattle?

In the latest episode, of Transfer gossip daily Ray Bradshaw and the Daily Telegraph’s Luke Edwards discuss:

    • Will Jesse Lingard join Newcastle from Manchester United before the window closes?
    • Sevilla close in on Man Utd’s Anthony Martial

Luke has been having loads of fun following Newcastle's attempts to prise Jesse Lingard away from Manchester United, so probably well worth a listen.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Harvey Elliott's return to training:, external"It's outstanding to have him back [in training]. I have a really nice office with a really good view so I could watch his rehab sessions and I was already excited by them.

"He's an outstanding boy. He was out for a long time so we cannot rush it, but he looked directly like he could play!

"I'm pretty sure after the international break he should be ready."

  13. 'The boys were flying' - Klopppublished at 11:44 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2022

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also asked about the form of Fabinho, Curtis Jones and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Klopp says Brazilian midfielder Fabinho "was outstanding last night. The amount of balls he won, the areas he played. That's absolutely helpful."

On 23-year-old Kelleher he says: "He is the number two at Liverpool and you can't get much higher than that at his age. We are more than happy with him. He is a John Achterberg [goalkeeping coach] project. There were a lot of steps to take since I arrived.

He is top class goalie, calm, with belief, good with the ball, and on top of that he makes incredible saves. And what is better for a young goalie than to learn from the best goalie [Alisson] in the world."

On Curtis Jones: "Look, you win a football game, a difficult one. You can only win it if all the players have perfpormed well and Curtis was really good in the last two games. II have known him for a long time and I'm one of his biggest fans to be honest.

"I saw him out my office when I first joined and thought 'Wow, how old is he?'. He was 15 at the time but it was clear he was a massive talent. Talents need to work but he is doing his work and talents need to learn the game. Sometimes he needs a little push and he can have them more often if he likes."

  14. 'The boys were flying' - Klopppublished at 11:36 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2022

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is also asked about the importance of momentum with regards to their appearance in the EFL Cup final:

"Last night the boys were flying - music loud, those kind of things. That's how it should be.

"I'm really happy about that. We feel good in this moment but we have to create a different mood until Sunday because Crystal Palace do not give out presents.

"We have to be greedy and have to be aggressive again and fight with all we have. That is what I am concerned about not keeping this feeling until the final."

  15. Postpublished at 11:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2022

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who saw his side win 7-0 on their last trip to Crystal Palace just over 12 months ago: "That was a one off. These days happen, it's a freak of nature and it doesn't happen usually. That day was incredible. Every shot we hit [went in].

"We don't expect that. They've changed and improved. They look like a really stable team now.

"System wise they have not changed too much. It's a really good Premier League team with a few really unlucky results I would say. We expect a really tough game."

  16. We were desperate to reach Wembley - Klopppublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2022

Crystal Palace v Liverpool (Sun, 14:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

The Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was probably expecting a question or two about Thursday's EFL Cup win against Arsenal and that is where he starts.

"We were desperate to go there [Wembley]," Klopp said.

"We did not think after the home leg that we were out. The boys played an outstanding game. There were a lot of happy faces in the stadium and a lot of happy faces in the dressing room - the music was really loud. We are all looking forward to it.

On Diogo Jota's match-winning performance: "He came here as an outstanding striker. It helps when you have a team that has a bit more possession. If you don’t have the basics no-one can perform miracles. Yesterday he had to do an awful lot to make it happen.

Diogo is a really impressive person. He has really grown up, he is really mature. He loves football, working and training.

"I'm really happy for him. If you this quality, then it's really nice that he showed it last night."

  19. Countinho has 'hit the ground running'published at 11:12 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2022

Everton v Aston Villa (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Aston Villa

More from Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard, who is asked about loan signing Philippe Coutinho: “He’s hit the ground running, it was a wonderful cameo and it was exactly what he needed.”

On Everton's present situation he adds: "You can quite clearly see, listen to and read the noises that are coming from Everton at the moment, which is the caretaker manager demanding a reaction.

“I don’t think it’s difficult to predict what’s going to be coming our way. I think you’re going to see a real cauldron of an atmosphere at Goodison, I think they’ll be behind the team.

“The majority of them (the fans) wanted a changed in that position (manager). To have an iconic figure leading the team (Duncan Ferguson), it will be pretty similar to what happened when he took over previously.

“The atmosphere, noise and support behind the team changed and he got a big reaction out of the players. From our point of view, we need to be ready for that, we need to handle that and make sure we’re the best version of ourselves.”

  20. Villa in good shapepublished at 11:10 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2022

Everton v Aston Villa (Sat, 12:30 GMT)

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard also provided a fitness update on his squad: "There’s nothing in terms of illness, assuming everyone comes through the [Covid] testing process this morning.

“We’ve got a doubt with Ezri Konsa, which you’ll know from the previous game. He left the pitch with a severe whack on his hip, so we’ll make a late decision on that today.

“Besides that we’re in good health. We’ve still got a session and testing process to come through, so it’s just Ezri that we’re waiting for so we’ll make a late decision on that.”
