    HT: West Brom 0-1 Huddersfield

Huddersfield move back up to second as it stands. Even a point at full-time will be good enough to stay ahead of Bournemouth.

Just look at that goal difference for leaders Fulham... plus 59! All sorts of goalscoring records are in their sights.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:46 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    West Brom 0-1 Huddersfield

The atmosphere has turned very subdued at The Hawthorns.

The tonic of that first win under Steve Bruce seems to be forgotten already. Albion look badly in need of some half-time words from Bruce and his backroom team.

  3. Postpublished at 41 mins

    West Brom 0-1 Huddersfield

Kyle Bartley powers a header just wide from Darnell Furlong's long throw as half-time approaches. But Albion are going to need to up their game.

  4. League Two updatepublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    HT: Tranmere 1-1 Mansfield

It's half-time in tonight's other EFL game where Mansfield have just drawn level at fellow promotion chasers Tranmere.

Matty Longstaff's goal has cancelled out Peter Clarke's early header.

  5. Postpublished at 35 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Huddersfield

A big roar as local Albion Academy product Taylor Gardner-Hickman wins a corner - but Kyle Bartley's attempted overhead kick fizzes just over the bar.

  6. Postpublished at 33 mins

    West Brom 0-1 Huddersfield

Albion try to counter following the shock of leaking such a daft goal - but it's rather killed the mood as far as the home fans are concerned.

They mutter their displeasure - but it's got the visiting Terriers fans in full voice as they lick their lips at the thought of the win that would lift then back into the Championship top two (in fact, a draw would be enough). And their side are now well on top.

Huddersfield have definitely been the season's surprise package in the Championship.

Do you think they're going to make a return to the Premier League after relegation in 2019?

Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.

  8. goal

GOAL: West Brom 0-1 Huddersfieldpublished at 24 mins

    Danny Ward

A goal. Right out of the blue.

And it's a shocker for Albion keeper Sam Johnstone.

He is way too casual as he fields a passback from Kyle Bartley, his attempted clearance cannons into Danny Ward and flies straight into the back of the net.

It is Terriers top scorer Ward's 12th goal of the season. He will not get an easier one.

  9. Postpublished at 22 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Huddersfield

Huddersfield win a free-kick in a decent position, but Albion clear their lines - and then Daniel Sinani's cross floats wide.

Only that early Alex Mowatt shot really of note so far as the two sides sound each other out.

Now the Terriers have another free-kick, but that drifts just wide too.

    West Brom 0-0 Huddersfield

    Lee NichollsImage source, Rex Features

Another Albion corner goes to waste, but Darnell Furlong wins a third one on the right.

This one gets keeper Lee Nicholls in a bit of a flap as he comes for a lofted ball and misses it, but he gets back to somehow atone.

  11. Postpublished at 6 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Huddersfield

The Terriers - in their unusual pale pastel green away strip - threaten at the other end with a corner of their own, but nothing comes from that either.

  12. Postpublished at 4 mins

    West Brom 0-0 Huddersfield

Maybe it’s because it’s a slightly higher-ranked team visiting tonight but there seems to be a better, noisier atmosphere that has been the case at recent home games - and Alex Mowatt brings the first big oohs with a stunning left-foot volley well turned aside for a corner by Huddersfield keeper Lee Nicholls.

  13. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

    West Brom 0-0 Huddersfield

The Liquidator has been played, the traditional pre-match insults have been voiced, referee Matt Donohue blows his whistle and we're under way at The Hawthorns.

  14. Tonight's team newspublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

West Bromwich Albion v Huddersfield Town (20:00 GMT)

Albion are unchanged from last Saturday's win at Hull, so talk of an early return for big striker Daryl Dike proved premature.

The 21-year-old New Year's Day signing from the MLS had been tipped to come back in, having been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury against Peterborough in January but only returned to training on Thursday.

Winger Matt Phillips is also still missing with a foot injury but 14-goal top scorer Karlan Grant faces his old club bang in form, having scored both goals in the win at Hull.

Huddersfield Town are back to full strength following Monday's FA Cup exit to Nottingham Forest.

Lee Nicholls, Harry Toffolo, Ollie Turton, Jon Russell, Lewis O'Brien, who had been a doubt, all return for the Terriers.

  15. Corberan not feeling any pressurepublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

West Bromwich Albion v Huddersfield Town (20:00 GMT)

One downside for Huddersfield Town boss Carlos Corberan in getting so seriously involved in the Championship promotion race is that he has now entered the world of mindgames - and opposition gaffers throwing in the 'p' word,

Although second-placed Bournemouth ought to be feeling well placed, with still three games in hand on nearest rivals Huddersfield, Scott Parker has admitted his Cherries are now feeling the pressure a bit after dropping five points in their last two games.

The point they earned from their midweek home draw with lowly Peterborough did at least lift them back above the Terriers into second on goal difference. Yet it was Parker who brought up the subject of the pressure of psychological expectation.

And Corberan batted it right back at him by agreeing that the pressure is all on Bournemouth, having been up there so long this season - and with so many genuine other automatic promotion contenders still in the mix, from fourth-placed Blackburn down perhaps even to 10th-placed Forest.

"For me Bournemouth are a team with the main target of promotion," said Corberan. "We are a team who have had the target of being the most competitive team we can be, that’s all. That’s motivation without any type of pressure.”

  16. Another Steve Bruce reunionpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

West Bromwich Albion v Huddersfield Town (20:00 GMT)

Another day in the Championship, another Steve Bruce reunion with a former club.

Admittedly, for a man who has had 12 different jobs in his 24 years in football management, there aren't that many places where the Manchester United legend hasn't left his calling card.

But this is only his seventh game in charge of Albion - and already this is his third reunion. Hardly a story any more, in fact!

Already, as Baggies boss, he has been back to two former haunts, Sheffield United, where he started his managerial career, and last weekend at Hull, where he had some of his best days.

So far it's one loss, one win and now it's on to face Huddersfield, who he quickly took to the top of the second tier table when he first started at the McAlpine Stadium in 1999.

The Terriers fell away that season - and did not reach the Premier League for another decade. But despite only lasting two seasons in the top flight, they are going well again this time round under Carlos Corberan.

"They’ve got a very good young coach," Bruce told BBC Radio WM. "They’re well-drilled and have got a little bit of hunger about them.

“It’s typical of the Championship really because I don’t think many people would have had them to be inside the play-off places, But they're a very good team."

  17. Good evening and welcomepublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2022

West Bromwich Albion v Huddersfield Town (20:00 GMT)

Good evening and welcome to The Hawthorns.

The 2021-22 Championship is building to another exciting climax, at least as far as two of the three promotion places are concerned. And the weekend starts here tonight in the West Midlands as 13th-placed West Brom face third-placed Huddersfield Town.

It's all a bit of a role reversal from when the two sides met back in mid-November, Albion were third in the Championship table - and Huddersfield climbed to seventh as a result of Daniel Sinani's early goal in a 1-0 win.

Much has changed since. While the Terriers have become serious automatic promotion contenders thanks to an 18-game unbeaten league and cup run under Carlos Corberan, Albion slumped into the bottom half on the back of their own contrasting run of one win in 13 league and cup matches.

But both of those runs came to a halt last weekend, when Albion picked up their first win under new boss Steve Bruce, at the sixth attempt, and Huddersfield were knocked out of the FA Cup by Forest. .
