You want the two top teams to be at their greatest strength and this is what we're seeing right now. Both squads having nearly everyone available is what we want to see

  5. Celtic next up for Rangerspublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-2 Rangers

After a hectic period of Europa League, Scottish Cup and Premiership business, Rangers can now rest their tired legs (give or take an international match or two) ahead of a crucial Old Firm derby after the international break.

Rangers host leaders Celtic on Sunday 3 April and you would imagine that a victory for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side will be a must considering their city rivals have gone 31 domestic games without defeat and don't look like dropping points against anyone else.

  6. 'They could not give an ounce more' - McGheepublished at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-2 Rangers

Dundee manager Mark McGhee tells BBC Scotland he thought it was a matter of time before Rangers' class told as he watched his side from the dugout for the first time after his touchline ban.

"In the last half-hour of the second half, there was an inevitability about conceding, so we can't argue that," he says. "Rangers piled on the pressure in the second-half.

"I was delighted with our first-half performance, the shape, the strategy, the execution of it, the intensity - we scored a great goal. Everything we had done on the training pitch was taken out there and that's really important to me.

"Then, we start to run out of energy and we do not have the same strength and depth that Rangers have to keep piling players on who can keep up that intensity in the level of performance. While they do that, we start to fade away.

"I don't think my lads could have given an ounce more. There is a lot of good to take out of it."

  7. We thought we would do it - Elliottpublished at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-2 Rangers

Dundee scorer Christie Elliott thinks his side can take heart in their battle to avoid relegation despite eventually losing to the reigning champions.

"When we got the opportunity to go 1-0 up, we built on that," he tells BBC Scotland. "We had the confidence and the belief we were going to do it, but it just wasn't enough.

"We know they are a top team and we have been working on their strengths all week as well as our own. We have to take the confidence from today into the next period.

"It's all down to us to get the points on the board and get out of this position."

  8. Changes turned game - Van Bronckhorstpublished at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-2 Rangers

The match was disrupted several times by toilet rolls and tennis balls thrown on to the Dens Park pitch by Rangers fans protesting about their club's decision to play a November friendly against Celtic in November.

Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst admits on Sky Sports that the action "disrupted" his side's play but adds that he can "understand" the fans' need to express their emotions.

He adds that the condition of the pitch also did not help but that: "We did enough to win in difficult circumstances". The Dutchman also points out that his second-half team changes to bring "more width" had turned the game for his side.

  9. 'Big relief' for Rangers managerpublished at 14:26 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-2 Rangers

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst admits it is "a big relief" to have secured the three points at Dens Park.

"It was a tough game," he tells Sky Sports. "We didn't start really well. Second half, we created more chances and sometimes you have to be a little bit lucky and we were in the end when the ball dropped for Connor [Goldson].

"Today could have cost us again two big points, but we kept the belief and worked hard to get the win."

Dundee can take a lot away from today's game in terms of their attitude and commitment. It's not always easy when you've not got the big focus, but if they can replicate that type of commitment then you wouldn't write them off for the play-off position

  13. 'We showed great character' - Tavernierpublished at 14:13 Greenwich Mean Time 20 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-2 Rangers

Rangers captain James Tavernier, who missed a first-half penalty, admits his side had to dig deep to secure a win.

"I thought we showed great character," he tells Sky Sports. "We did not play to our level sin the first half and we knew second half we had to put in a really good performance.

"We were more patient on the ball, the substitutes made an impact and I am really pleased to come away with three points."

Rangers changed everything in the second-half. The mentality, attitude, tempo and personnel. Their squad strength was a major factor in turning the game and Dundee just got worn down. It was a tactical masterclass from Giovanni Van Bronckhorst
