  3. Who needs what?published at 17:55 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

Aberdeen v Ross County should be a cracker at Pittodrie next weekend. Both sides need a win to get into the top half - and they both need Hibs not to win away at Hearts.

Dundee United look secure. A draw in the derby at the Tannadice would almost certainly get them over the line. The only way they can miss out is if they lose and Hibs and Ross County win and there's a winner in the Livingston v Motherwell game, along with a goal difference swing.

A win for Motherwell will do the trick, but they go to Livingston, who must pick up a victory to have a chance.

Hibs are in sixth at the moment but in a rather sticky spot, chasing a win at Tynecastle in the Edinburgh derby. A draw would be enough if none of the teams below them wins, but that requires Aberdeen and Ross County to also share the spoils.

  4. 'A much needed win' - Alexanderpublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: Motherwell 4-2 St Mirren

Motherwell manager Gramham Alexander tells BBC Scotland that today’s result was a necessity for the Fir Park side.

“A much needed and fantastic win,” he said. “I thought the players were superb.”

He continued: “From minute one we were the team one top, even before they scored, it was a bit of a fortunate ricochet [for St Mirren’s opening goal].

“The response from the players was excellent, we didn't get our heads down and to score two quickfire goals was great.

“The script as it has been for the last few weeks means we give away an equaliser, which I thought was harsh.

“The players showed great belief in how we wanted to attack today, I thought we passed the ball brilliantly, combined with each other and we were very clinical in front of goal."

  5. 'Aberdeen should have won comfortably' - Goodwinpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: Dundee 2-2 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Sportsound: "Frustration is the key word. It's a game we should have won comfortably.

"We've had over 20 attempts on goal with eight or nine on target. We've hit the crossbar, had one cleared off the line, and should have been two or three up at half-time.

"We've conceded two extremely poor free-kicks. In the build-up to the first goal, Charlie Adam has clearly struck Lewis Ferguson twice in the face, which should have been a free-kick for us.

"All that said, we need to defend both crosses better and take responsibility in these key moments."

  6. Martindale in disbelief after penalty callspublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: St Johnstone 1-0 Livingston

Livingston manager David Martindale is angry at two penalty decisions that went against his side.

St Johnstone scored from an early Callum Hendry penalty, while Livi were denied a late spot kick of their own after a handball from Dan Cleary was missed.

He tells BBC Scotland: "Shocking, shocking. For the St Johnstone penalty I don't think it's a penalty. There's dubiety about that. But when you look at the free-kick, Murray Davidson is offside. Fitzy [Jack Fitzwater] is trying to protect his area and Callum Hendry runs into his elbow.

"Our penalty appeal. I've played all levels of football and I've never seen a penalty like that go against you. It's incredible how that was not given a penalty.

"That point could be worth anything between half a million and £2m to the club. I've been inside trying to calm myself down and I need to watch what I say. Sometimes I feel why do I need to watch what I say when it was a blatant penalty that goes against you. Every single person in this stadium today knew that was a penalty.

"The officials in my opinion have got to do better."

  7. 'We're in a dogfight' - Robinsonpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: Motherwell 4-2 St Mirren

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson reckons his side didn't deserve to win today, as they were comprehensively beaten by Motherwell.

“If you concede four goals you don’t deserve to win football matches," he remarked. "It's as simple as that."

He also added: “Defensively we were so poor, there’s a reason why we've conceded the third amount of goals in the league.

“You can’t win football matches defending like that. We had a great start but the first two [Motherwell] goals are literally passed into our net.

“We’re in a dogfight, that’s the reality. I thought that about three weeks ago when I assessed the squad."

  8. 'St Johnstone looking more like themselves'published at 17:28 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: St Johnstone 1-0 Livingston

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson tells BBC Scotland: "Back to back wins at home for the first time this season and a clean sheet. I'm delighted to get the three points.

"You can see the boys are fighting, they're desperate to do well. That never give up attitude, that was the hallmark of last season and it's now returning to the team, and the confidence is returning too."

  9. 'I can see St Johnstone winning more games'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: St Johnstone 1-0 Livingston

"A six point gap and better goal difference, I can't see how Dundee stay up because I can see St Johnstone winning more games, says Sportsound pundit Allan Preston.

"St Johnstone didn't create a lot of chances today but they just dug it out.

"But Kevin Clancy will be so disappointed to have not given Livingston a penalty with six minutes to go. It's as easy a penalty as you'll ever get. It's another case for us needing VAR."

  10. 'It could be a huge point for Dundee'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

    FT: Dundee 2-2 Aberdeen

"Our pitch doesn't help either team but, overall, I think we deserved something from the game," says Dundee manager Mark McGhee.

"It could be a huge point for us at the end of the season.

"We've got the derby next week and those are never predictable, while St Johnstone have a difficult game against Celtic. We know we need to get something.

"Charlie Adam hadn't trained until Friday. I didn't think for a minute that he could contribute today but he came to see me and told me he thought he was well enough to give us a little bit. He made a brilliant contribution."

  14. Motherwell the big movers of the daypublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

That looks like a very handy point for Dundee United in this tortoise race for the top six.

Motherwell positively rocket up the table to fifth thanks to their first win of 2022. And they did it in style, banging in four goals.

Aberdeen were temporarily up to sixth a couple of times but end the day in ninth and St Mirren now need to beat Rangers next weekend to have a sniff of a chance of breaking out of the bottom pack.

  15. FULL-TIME - Hibernian 1-1 Dundee Unitedpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

It ends all square at Easter Road as Harry Clarke's fine finish for Hibs cancels out Ross Graham's early opener for Dundee United.

Elias Melkersen should have won it in stoppage time for the home side, but somehow smashed his shot over.

Both sides' top-six fate will be determined next week when they play their respective city rivals!

  16. FULL-TIME St Johnstone 1-0 Livingstonpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

St Johnstone are six points clear of the bottom of the Scottish Premiership after a early penalty was enough to defeat Livingston at McDiarmid Park.

The visitors were furious after Jack Fitzwater was adjudged to have elbowed Callum Hendry in the box inside three minutes, with the striker picking himself up to score his seventh goal in 10 games from the spot.

Livingston dominated thereafter but could not find a way past Zander Clark as David Martindale's side slipped out of the top six.

    A terrible miss.

  19. FULL-TIME Dundee 2-2 Aberdeenpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

Dundee's relegation plight deepens despite twice fighting back for a point against Aberdeen in a Scottish Premiership thriller full of late drama.

Danny Mullen glanced in a header to prevent a third straight league defeat for the bottom club after Ross McCrorie looked to have won it for the visitors.

Jim Goodwin's side deservedly led at half-time through Calvin Ramsay's first goal for the club, before Jordan McGhee headed Dundee level.

The Dens men are now six points adrift at the bottom, while the points deals a major blow to Aberdeen's top-six hopes.

  20. FULL-TIME Motherwell 4-2 St Mirrenpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 2 April 2022

An incredible game of football at Fir Park this afternoon...

Goals from Sean Goss, Dean Cornelius and a Connor Shields double for the home side cancelled out first-half strikes from Eamonn Brophy and Conor McCarthy.

St Mirren are now tenth in the table and Motherwell move up to fifth having ended a run of 11 games without a win.
