  4. 'Two nations missing goal threats'published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    HT: Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport at Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar

The first 20 minutes of the match was explosive and matched the atmosphere inside the ground. It's gone a bit flat as time has gone on. The Oranje have not been galvanised. Their side have prodded and poked but have lacked ruthlessness.

Senegal have been threatening but just one shot on target - a tame long-effort strike - is all they have to show for it. It's a half which sums up two nations missing their biggest goal threats.

  5. 'Lack of creativity letting Senegal down'published at 16:59 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    HT: Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

    John Bennett
BBC World Service Sport, Al Thumama Stadium

I mentioned Senegal’s lack of midfield creativity before the game and as expected their final ball is really letting them down. They’ve got into some decent areas but haven’t capitalised. They’ve been frustrating from set-pieces too.

When you have aerial threats like Kalidou Koulibaly and Cheikhou Kouyate you have to get the delivery right to take advantage of their power in the box. The African champions will feel in a good position to put the Netherlands under pressure second half but some better decision making is needed in the final third.

  6. 'Wasteful from the Dutch'published at 16:56 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    HT: Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Former England striker Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live

Netherlands have had the better of the opportunities. Cody Gakpo early on, should have taken on a shot himself. He tried to square it to Steven Bergwijn and missed the pass, big chance gone. Frenkie de Jong has been a great watch, he had a one on one situation. He dallied, he took too long. Chance gone.

Interesting one this. Senegal have shown enough but nothing really clear cut. You feel that they're going to threaten the Dutch goal in the second half, more than they did in the first half but the Dutch have been wasteful.

No Sadio Mane. No Memphis Depay. Should we be surprised it's goalless?

  8. Postpublished at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Excluding blocked shots, it's 3-3 on efforts.

Senegal's Youssouf Sabaly is the only one to force a save.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Fun game but needs a goal.

  10. Postpublished at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Two minutes of added time.

  11. Postpublished at 45 mins

The Dutch scored 33 goals in qualifying - 12 of those came from Memphis Depay. They could really do with him out there. A wayward header by Youssouf Sabaly gifts the Netherlands a corner but it's another poor delivery.

  12. 'Sarr causing problems'published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

Sarr is too much for De Ligt. He is causing problems. He needed to step up with no Mane in the team.

  13. 'Sarr a threat all half'published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

    Emma Sanders
BBC Sport at Al Thumama Stadium, Qatar

That shot by Steven Berghuis got the Dutch fans behind the goal going. A chant of "Netherlands" rang around the stadium afterwards but the Senegalese are roaring now as Ismaila Sarr has done well again to win a corner. He's been a threat all half.

  14. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Free-kicks in this game have been atrocious. Both teams really need to improve their set-pieces.

  15. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Steven Berghuis lashes over from outside the penalty area. Sums up the Dutch so far. Plenty of effort but they cannot test the keeper.

  16. 'Something could happen for Senegal'published at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live

Hasn't quite happened for Senegal in that final third but you sense something could happen. They have shown enough so far to make sure that the Dutch defenders are really switched on.

  17. Postpublished at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

No real urgency by either side right now. Senegal are having another decent spell of possession around the Dutch penalty area but they cannot get a shot away.

  18. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

Emma is spot on. Mendy has not had one save to make and we're in the final 10 minutes of the first half.

The Dutch supporters are on their feet trying to urge their team on. They have been hesitant to shoot. Edouard Mendy has not been tested in the Senegal goal.

  20. 'Lax start from Van Dijk'published at 16:37 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2022

    Senegal 0-0 Netherlands

    Chris Sutton
Former England striker Chris Sutton on BBC Radio 5 Live

So far this evening, Virgil van Dijk has been sloppy. People have asked if he is saving himself for the World Cup but his start has been slightly lax.
