If Senegal don't win this game, it will be very difficult for them to have a future in this tournament. Ghana were unlucky yesterday but I think they have been the better African team in the tournament.

It's a shame that Mane is out for Senegal but they rely too much on him, that's how they won the Africa Cup of Nations. He was the one affecting the tempo of the game but without him you see a different Senegal.

I was out this morning talking to some local Qataris and they said they are nervous coming into this game but equally they are hopeful. They expect and they want more because they have seen better performances than that opening game.

They need to deliver today.

It’s an attacking line-up from Senegal boss Aliou Cisse. 4-2-3-1 but effectively I think it’ll turn into 4-2-4. This Senegal team struggled to score goals at times even when Sadio Mane was fully fit.

Remember they drew the semi-final and final of the Africa Cup of Nations they won earlier this year 0-0 before taking the victory both times on penalties.

Cisse will be hoping more bodies in the forward areas will hurt the Qatar defence. But it is asking a lot of Gueye and Mendy in midfield.

Plenty of players with Premier League experience in the Senegal team.

But against Netherlands, another one with experience of the English top flight was sorely missed.

Then again any team would miss Sadio Mane wouldn't they?

Senegal held their own against the Dutch but just lacked that spark in the final third, will they have found answer to that issue today.

The teams are out. It is national anthem time at the at Al Thumama Stadium.

It's going to be tough for Qatar, they would have understood that coming into the tournament. They want to enjoy themselves buy give a good account of themselves. One thing they will need is the support of the fans, last time we saw them leave quite early.

Stick by your team, cheer them on until the end, until the final whistle.

Only once before has the host nation failed to advance from the opening phase of a World Cup but a defeat here would leave Qatar in danger of following in the footsteps of South Africa 12 years ago.

After all the build-up and money spent to host the World Cup, Qatar could be out of the tournament inside the first week.

If Felix Sanchez's side lose against Senegal today and the Netherlands avoid defeat against Ecuador later on, the Qataris will be out.

The big team news for Qatar erratic goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb is dropped.

It means Meshaal Barsham, younger brother of reigning world and Olympic high jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim, starts in goal.

There are three changes in all from the side that lost to Ecuador in the opener, with Ismail Mohamad and Assim Madibo also coming in with Bassam Al-Rawi and Abdulaziz Hatem dropping out.

Qatar XI: Barsham, Miguel, Mohamad, Khoukhi, Hassan, Ahmed, Al Haydos, Boudiaf, Madibo, Ali, Afif.

Senegal make two changes from the side that lost 2-0 to the Netherlands last time out.

Ismail Jakobs and Famara Diedhiou come in for Pape Abdou Cisse and Cheikhout Kouyate.

Chelsea duo Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy, Leicester's Nampalys Mendy, Everton's Idrissa Gueye and Watford forward Ismaila Sarr all start.

Senegal XI: Mendy, Sabaly, Koulibaly, Jakobs, Diallo, Diehhiou, Mendy, Diatta, Gueye, Sarr, Dia.

"Focus on football" was Fifa's message to competing nations before the start of the World Cup.

After the result from the competition's opening game, anyone associated with Qatar will have wanted to forget their 90 minutes against Ecuador.

Felix Sanchez's side were easily beaten 2-0, failing to muster a shot on target in the entire contest.

And they become the first host side in the tournament's history to lose their opening game.

A day that started with genuine optimism with the realisation of their World Cup dream coming true, it soon turned into a nightmare for players and fans alike.

Talking of the heat...it's been turned up significantly on Wales today.

If you are just joining us Robert Page's side had goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey sent off in the closing stages before shipping two goals in a heartbreaking - but deserved - last-ditch defeat by Iran in Group B.

Got to the stadium quite early, four hours before kick-off in fact. Shows good commitment that, eh?

Anyway, I should have stayed in and got here a bit later because it was absolutely roasting at midday.

They've moved the tournament to a 'winter' slot because of the extreme heat in the summer months, but we still touched 30C today.

The Al Thumama Stadium is based on a hat they wear in the region and you certainly need one in this heat.

Will the scorching temperatures suit hosts Qatar or Senegal today?

Every side has now played at least one game at the 2022 Fifa World Cup. Today we actually started all over again with the sides in Group A and B all playing and one dramatic game already having taken place.

Qatar and Senegal, who both lost their opening games, will meet at 13:00 GMT before Netherlands and Ecuador play at 16:00 GMT.
