You can read our report on how things unfolded on a good day for Senegal but less so for Qatar, with the hosts on the verge of a group-stage exit from the World Cup.

Qatar now need a huge favour from Ecuador, who beat them in the opening game, to salvage any hope of remaining in the tournament.

Dan: Flashes of good play in this Qatar team, but there is no confidence or conviction in anything. Good free kicks, good balls into the box, nothing on the end of any of them. Don't think I've ever since such a lack of confidence and endeavour from a home nation at a World Cup.

It's in the balance for Senegal, I don't think they played really well today but a lot will depend on how the Dutch team do against Ecuador.

I'm pleased for Qatar. We said that Qatar would score a goal. You wanted the host nation to at least score a goal.

Qatar may well go out of the World Cup this evening with a game to spare but this moment is likely to stick with their supporters and Mohammed Muntari for a long, long time.

Finally a win for an African team at the tournament but I would have loved to have seen more goals from Senegal. They stopped attacking at 2-1 and maybe this can cost them qualification later, who knows.

Both teams came out fighting and it was nice to see Qatar get on the scoresheet. They huffed and puffed. It was a really well worked goal and I was pleased for them in that aspect.

Qatar are some way off it, but they got their goal.

Second half was so much better. We expect more from Senegal, but it is job done.

This is like going from League 2 to Champions League, not just in terms of quality, but physically as well.

Qatar were much more prominent as an attacking force in the second half.

But, crucially, they only took one of the chances they created inside the Senegal penalty area.

Qatar finished with an xG of 0.94, Senegal 0.77.

Qatar cause Senegal problems down the left before the ball is unceremoniously hacked clear. It feels like Felix Sanchez's side have taken the handbrake off, albeit far too late.

Abdelkarim Hassan goes close for the hosts from a well worked and inventive free-kick, pulling his shot right. If that'd been on target it'd probably have gone in.

It's got to be frustrating for the coach and the players of Qatar because they haven't really given themselves a chance.
