His daughter Charlotte, 22, added: “Its been incredible. The whole experience. Here among the Welsh fans.”

  5. 'Wales will be fighting for their World Cup lives'

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

    England

England captain Harry Kane speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's going to be a tough game, every game bring different emotions. I know there will be a lot of hype and talk around the game. For us it's tough team that we need to overcome in a major tournament.

They are going to be fighting for their lives in terms of qualification and we need to just stay focused on ourselves, not get dragged into too much of th ebuild up, just focus on the game and trying to perform at our highest level.

"The ultimate goal is to combine our performances from the two previous matches, it's going to be tough. Wales are a really good well organised side who are fighting for their World Cup lives, it's their last chance to qualify.

"Of course we can play better with the ball in the attacking third than we did against the USA and that will be our aim. If we can keep another clean sheet, like we did in the last game, then we'll be in a good place."

  6. Has Page change come too late?

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard

BBC Sport Wales at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium

Some Wales followers may argue Robert Page's tactical change has come too late to make a meaningful difference, but the more optimistic among them might say it's a case of better late than never.

The 3-5-2 system that Page stubbornly persisted with against the USA and Iran clearly did not get the best out of the players available, despite many calls to switch to four at the back.

This now looks like a more balanced side, with greater numbers in midfield to help with defensive solidity and an attack which seems set up to try and give Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey the platform to rediscover their best form.

Whatever system Wales employ tonight, they're going to be up against it.

  9. Protestor banned from attending games

    Protestor during Portugal v Uruguay

You may have seen during Portugal's game with Uruguay yesterday that it was halted by a protestor who sprinted on to show support for Ukraine, Iran’s women and gay rights.

Well, Qatari authorities have now banned the individual from attending any further World Cup matches.

A Supreme Committee spokesperson told the Guardian: “Following the pitch invasion that took place during last night’s Portugal v Uruguay match, we can confirm that the individual involved was released shortly after being removed from the pitch. His embassy has been informed.

“As a consequence of his actions, and as is standard practice, his Hayya card [which allows international fans to enter the country and attend games] has been cancelled and he has been banned from attending future matches at this tournament.”

    Christopher Wood

    Reporting from Qatar

Rhodri, Osian and Anwen Charles, from Cardiff

As we near kick-off, the feelings of despondency among many fans during the build-up are beginning to fade.

“After the first two games I thought we were down and out,” said Rhodri Charles, 47, from Cardiff.

“But the closer we get to kick-off, I start wondering if we can actually pull it off?”

His wife Anwen, 45 added: “We have to keep believing or we wouldn’t be here.”

Julie Morgan, 65, from Abergavenny said she had come a long way to see this and was confident the players could put in a performance.

“We have got to do it. It’s now or never.”

  12. Your England XI to face Wales

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

England's goalless draw with the United States left them on the brink of a place in the World Cup last 16, but who do you think should start against Wales in the Three Lions' final group game?

To give England boss Gareth Southgate a helping hand, we asked you to name your England XI for Tuesday's match.

And it is clear many Three Lions fans felt it was time to give Phil Foden and Jack Grealish the chance to shine from the outset.

Foden was the most-selected player by BBC Sport readers and he makes your midfield, while Grealish joins Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane in the front three.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was also preferred at full-back in place of Kieran Trippier.

Welsh fans were close with the team they would have picked to face England. They nailed the front line, but preferred Brennan Johnson to Aaron Ramsey.

  14. 'We're a team. We're a nation'

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

One player Wales fans are hoping will step up to the challenge tonight is captain Gareth Bale, who along with midfielder Aaron Ramsey received criticism for his performance during the 2-0 defeat by Iran.

The former Real Madrid superstar is often the player many in Wales turn to but Bale said he "does not feel responsibility" to carry the side to victory.

"We're a team. We're a nation and we work hard for each other. We need to deliver as a team, it's not one person that needs to do anything," Bale said.

"Of course we'd have loved to be winning and doing a lot better but the reality is, football is hard. If it was that easy, we'd be favourites to win the World Cup."

Tuesday's task will certainly not be easy but Bale has hope that Wales can cause an upset against their local rivals.

"Everyone has weaknesses," he added. "We know how difficult it will be. England are a very good team.

"They're one of the favourites to win the tournament. We are under no illusions it will be hard. There's been a few shocks in the tournament already and there's no reason why we can't do the same."

  15. Post update

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

Phil Foden is in then. A lot of England fans getting what they wanted.

This is his first proper chance to stake a claim for continued presence in this Three Lions team going forward.

Kyle Walker brings serious pace to the defence, with Marcus Rashford doing the same at the other end of the pitch. The Manchester United forward looked very useful in his cameo showing against Iran.

Jordan Henderson is a very reliable man in the middle, bringing a cool head and plenty of nous.

As for Wales, Daniel James is absolute lightning and will want to make a much bigger impact than he has so far in the tournament. Joe Allen will look to do for his country what Henderson hopes to do for England.

  17. TEAM NEWS - Bale and Ramsey start

    England v Wales (19:00 GMT)

    Wales

The Wales team news is in, and the big news is that captain Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey start after speculation their places were under threat after their recent disappointing form.

After two poor performances in drawing with the United States and losing to Iran, manager Robert Page seems to have abandoned his three-at-the-back formation in order to switch to a 4-2-3-1.

That means midfielder Joe Allen starts – fit again after a hamstring injury – instead of Harry Wilson, while winger Daniel James comes in for full-back Connor Roberts.

There are three changes in total from Friday’s defeat by Iran, with the other seeing goalkeeper Danny Ward replacing the suspended Wayne Hennessey.

Wales: Ward; N Williams, Mepham, Rodon, B Davies; Allen, Ampadu; Bale, Ramsey, James; Moore.

  18. Who awaits in the last 16...?

Those qualifying from this group now know the fate that awaits them in the last 16.

This after Senegal beat Ecuador and Netherlands saw off hosts Qatar in the final round of Group A games.

  19. TEAM NEWS - Foden, Henderson, Rashford & Walker start

    England v Wales (19.00 GMT)

    England

Gareth Southgate makes four changes to his England starting XI from the dour draw with USA.

Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford flank Harry Kane up front, with Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka dropping to the bench.

Kyle Walker is fit having sat out the opening two matches and replaces Kieran Trippier at right back, while in midfield Jordan Henderson replaces Mason Mount.

England XI: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Henderson, Rice, Bellingham; Rashford, Kane, Foden.
