Junya Ito, who has just come on for Japan, looks set to burst clean through into the box when he is clearly fouled by Francisco Calvo.

Out comes another yellow card from Michael Oliver's pocket and Japan have another great chance from a set-piece.

It was Celso Borges who goes in for the tackle and he is so late on Wataru Endo. A dangerous position for Japan but it is such a difficult skill to get the ball up and over the wall, and then back down again in time.

Costa Rica pretty much have everyone behind the ball inside their own half. Japan are facing a red wall and they're struggling to break it down.

I really like Kaoru Mitoma. He's a really aggressive player in the sense that he attacks people, really takes the game to defenders. It's almost a dying art but he is a sensational player.

A good spell of pressure by Japan but Yuki Soma almost finds the corner flag with a wild attempt before a poor backpass puts Keylor Navas under pressure but Japan cannot take advantage.

Costa Rica have been largely non-existent as an attacking force here.

They're still to register a shot on target at this tournament.

In their previous game, Japan had made two shot attempts against Germany before Takuma Asano came off the bench in the 57th minute. Japan recorded nine shot attempts with Asano on the pitch. Asano himself recorded five shot attempts, including scoring the winning goal.
