Brighton, as they did before falling behind, are pushing forward and Birmingham can't get out for the time being.

Megan Walsh is out of her box in her flash to deny Jade Pennock a run at goal. Good goalkeeping. She had to get that spot on.

Birmingham keeper Emily Ramsey is at full stretch as she jumps to her left to push away Geum-min Lee's curling shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Brighton were getting on top, but that goal has given Birmingham a huge confidence boost.

It's still a struggle in midfield, but that opener proved they only need one loose ball to capitalise.

The great escape could be on...

Emily Ramsey leaps to catch a cross and settle the nerves a little after that nervous moment a couple of minutes ago. Brighton are spreading the ball around nicely now and Birmingham are struggling to keep hold of it.

Blimey, that was almost a costly error by Birmingham keeper Emily Ramsey, who takes her time to clear the ball and it's closed down by Geum-min Lee. Luckily for Ramsey, it doesn't end up in her net.

Emma Kullberg sets Kayleigh Green free on the left but there's nobody there to meet Green's cut-back. A bit of panic in the Brighton box, but the hosts eventually clear.

Brighton get on the ball and build down the right, but the final ball into the box evades all. A committed start by both sides.

The visitors immediately go on the attack, but Megan Walsh is able to collect a cross from the left under pressure.

Could this be the start of Birmingham's great escape?

Brighton have lost eight of their last 12 league matches, and lost 1-0 at Manchester United last time out.

Since they jointed the WSL in 2018, only Birmingham (43), have lost more WSL games than the Seagulls (42).

But Hope Powell's side have won three of their last five to sit sixth in the table, and a win today would put them level with Tottenham, in fifth.

There are two changes for Birmingham City as they continue their fight for survival.

In comes Lisa Robertson and Jade Pennock. Eleanor Ryan-Doyle and Libby Smith are among the substitutes.

Brighton boss Hope Powell has named four changes to her side, as goalkeeper Megan Walsh, Megan Connolly, Inessa Kaagman and Kayleigh Green come into the starting line-up.

Katie Startup, Emma Koivisto and Emily Simpkins drop to the bench, while Felicity Gibbons is absent.

Birmingham are still searching for only their second win of season after 18 matches.

They earned a point against Everton last time out, avoiding defeat for just the third time this season.

But they desperately need all three points today to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.
