Lyon midfielder Catarina Macario said tonight's Champions League final will be a "big moment" in women's football.

She believes Barcelona are helping to "push the movement" of women's football forward with their impressive performances and record breaking crowd attendances.

"The fact that they were able to sell out the Camp Nou, that’s wonderful and I think that sets the standard going forward for the Champions League and for big matches.

“It’s going to be a big battle between the fans from Barcelona and the fans from Lyon so it won’t be necessarily a home advantage but it’s going to be something that I think will go down in the history books forever.

“It’s going to be very exciting, a great atmosphere no matter what happens. I think it’s just wonderful where women’s football is going so hopefully this will be the standard for the future."

Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala said tonight's match will be "crazy" but there is no added motivation to win just because it is against Lyon.

They lost to Lyon in the final three years ago and Oshoala thinks that defeat was a stepping stone to becoming a better team.

“It’s going to be a crazy game to be honest with you, I can assure people you’re going to have fun – trust me," Oshoala told BBC Sport.

"We’ve worked so hard this season and I think if we win it then we definitely deserve it because we’ve had a really good run in every competition we’ve participated in.

"It would be good to win the Champions League again, not because it is Lyon we're playing against, but because it's going to be an amazing experience for us to have it back-to-back."

Lyon manager Sonia Bompastor wants her side to give Barcelona a "run for their money".

The French giants are aiming to reclaim the trophy after missing out on last year's final.

"Barcelona are the title holders, so we could say they are the favourites," said Bompastor.

"Let's not forget Lyon have a lot of experience. This allows us to know how to approach it, but a final is 50-50.

"A magician never reveals their tricks, but our team is talented and we have the skill-set necessary to give them a run for their money, which is what we're going to do."

It will be interesting to see Lyon's front three and how much pressure they are going to put on Barcelona's defence. If Barca have a weakness it is their defence. Sometimes they like to chase across and follow the ball. What are they going to be like under pressure?

Lyon midfielder Catarina Macario said it will be a "cool experience" to come up against Alexia Putellas.

"Obviously she's the best player in the world. Who doesn’t want to play against her?

“Of course as much as one may admire her, we’re in it to win - so, I mean, sorry Alexia but I don’t admire you today!”

However, Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala said it was "lame"' to focus on the match-up between Putellas and Lyon's Ada Hegerberg.

“Alexia is Alexia, Hegerberg is Hegerberg, you have other top players in the team.

"This is not one person against one person, it’s a team sport, it’s a team game.

"This is not tennis, this is not… what sport can I say, like darts or whatever, it’s a team sport, it’s not one person against one person.”

Barcelona went away from the 2019 final [in which Lyon beat them] and built a squad and what a fantastic squad it is. They wanted to be going in to these big games and they arrive here as favourites and wanting to win it.

Alexia Putellas is the world's best player, one who wants to get on the ball and drive her team forward. Midfield will be really key.

"It's super important not to just have big brands and big clubs that are putting a great show on, but also clubs that are really standing behind women's football."

Turin promises to stage an epic final between two teams who know how to win in Europe.

The Spanish side have only lost one match this season.

Meanwhile, it's a 10th final for Lyon and the chance to win an eighth title - extending their record.

Lyon boss Sonia Bompastor would also become the first woman to win the Champions League as both a player and a manager.

She won the title with Lyon in 2011 and 2012 as a player.

Tonight's match will see the mouth-watering prospect of inaugural Ballon d'Or Winner Ada Hegerberg and current award winner Alexia Putellas coming up against each other.

"I can't speak for Alexia but I think you're so focused on the job that you stay calm and you're not trying to fire up something," Lyon forward Hegerberg told BBC sport.

"It's a massive final. Two great teams. What Barcelona have achieved over the last year - that's what football needs, these types of games."

Putellas said she will reflect on her achievements when she retires.

"We live in a sport where you play a match and three days later you have another," she told BBC Sport.

"You don't have time to taste anything - the victories, the defeats, or the individual titles such as the Ballon d'Or.

"These things happen but you must keep going because this world doesn't stop."
