I think the Netherlands psychologically will be a lot better off but will we see another moment of brilliance from the great man?

I think Argentina are just trying to get a foothold back in this team.

The players are shell-shocked.

Ah, so Steven Bergwijn has been booked too. For arguing apparently. I think it was in the period after full-time.

Even Lionel Messi looks a bit dazed and that man has ice in his veins.

We are up to 12 bookings in this game - five for Netherlands, seven for Argentina including the one for coach Walter Samuel.

Will we see a red?

Understandably, the first few minutes here are being played at quite a leisurely pace. Both sides probably need to get the heart rates down a bit.

We have a bit of thing in the office here in Salford where the guys around the corner have a feed that is slightly ahead of the one I see. A second before that free-kick it all went off, with people cheering and laughing incredulously.

No way I would have predicted THAT free-kick. You just don't think someone has the bravery or presence of mind to do that in those circumstances.

It is eerily quiet here at Lusail Stadium.

The Argentina fans simply can't believe it.

A few are trying to start the tunes, but it is very half-hearted.

You were already plotting for the semi. Now you're suddenly in one heck of a scrap.

As we start extra-time, I can tell you that Nicolas Otamendi was booked in the melee at full time.

If this ends 11 v 11, I'll be amazed.

The drama at the end of this game. I have almost lost my voice. Louis van Gaal is known as someone who plays total football but gets his team back in it by throwing on two big units up front. They have to keep playing that way now, playing to their strengths.
