    Neil Taylor

Wales full-back on BBC Radio Wales

The second half wasn't nice to watch, but in the end I always thought we were going to get the win.

These are fantastic scenes on the pitch and what an amazing occasion for Wales.

The great thing as well is this is a young team and there's a lot of good players on the bench to develop.

    Nathan Blake

Former Wales striker on BBC Radio Wales

That man [Gareth Bale] stood up again, produced the goods and we find ourselves on our way to the 2022 World Cup.

    Absolutely fantastic scenes.

    Jayne Ludlow

Former Reading and Wales manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is surreal. I had a good feeling today about this and I was hopeful. But we have actually got there.

Players and staff and fans have been talking about it for years, be it on the male or female side. I am standing here and emotionally it is strange. The elation for us as a nation, in a football context, but then there's the war context. It is a strange emotional place to be.

    Natasha Harding

Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

You dream of this as a player, you dream of it as a fan and I think everyone's emotions just errupted on that final whistle.

To see the boys achieve this and get it over the line is an incredible achievement.

    Rob Phillips

BBC Wales Football Correspondent on BBC Radio Wales

I've never seen scenes like this.

This is a generation-defining victory for Wales, and it was Gareth Bale's free kick that helped take them there.

A man on a mission, a talisman, he will be on the same stage as Messi, Ronaldo, all the greats of world football and it's a place he deserves to be.

    FT: Wales 1-0 Ukraine

    Sam Ricketts

Former Wales defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think you can appreciate what has gone on behind the scenes. What has built up over all thee years.

It is not just for individuals, it is for the country, for everyone.

It is hard work. There is a lot of talent on that pitch, but it is heart as well. I said just before the end of the game, as a group of players they have squeezed every last bit of effort out. They have got the maximum out of this squad and they deserve the plaudits and the journey they will take to Qatar.

  9. Post update

    FT: Wales 1-0 Ukraine

    Jayne Ludlow

Former Reading and Wales manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

I'm speechless. It is something we have tried to achieve over many, many years. It is absolutely fantastic, for all the guys who have been involved in this over many years but also for everybody.

Think about the next few months. If you are involved in football in Wales this is immense.

  10. Post update

    FT: Wales 1-0 Ukraine

Joe Cordina wins a world title and then the end of a 64-year wait for a spot at a World Cup.

    Ian Dennis

BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

The long wait is over for a country steeped in myth and legend. They have banished the notion that they will fall at the final hurdle for a World Cup.

Under Rob Page, it is a chapter in their history that will be read over and over again. Page and his players have achieved legendary status in Wales.

But spare a thought for Ukraine, who have done their country so proud in the most difficult of circumstances.

  12. Post update
