  1. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Wales 1-0 Ukraine

    So close!

A lovely Wales move as Dan James and Kieffer Moore combine to put the ball on a plate for Aaron Ramsey, but he uncharacteristically completely scuffs his shot wide.

A golden, golden chance for 2-0.

  2. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Wales 1-0 Ukraine

Ukraine have started the second half probing, they might feel unfortunate to be behind.

I think the referee has been very poor, I haven't enjoyed the way he has refereed the game with the early bookings and the way he gets the crowd going with his mannerisms.

Wales have to be very careful not to pick up a red card in the second half.

45 minutes to end a wait of 64 years.

We are back under way in the Welsh capital.

I would say Wales have rode their luck a bit there. A bit of magic from Gareth Bale.

Ukraine have maybe just edged the game. They have been better in possession and created more dangerous opportunities.

But as a Welshman, I am delighted.

It hasn't let us down, both teams are trying to play high tempo.

If you're trying to pick a winner out of that half you'd say Wales, they're 1-0 up and just slightly the better team.

Ukraine have had a few chances that they could have done better with, but Wales have been able to keep that door locked.

Kieffer Moore is neither here nor there right now.

He needs to play his game and hold the ball up.

The game is by-passing him, he needs to start getting into the game, taking a few more touches and do what he's very good at which is bringing others into play.

    HT: Wales 1-0 Ukraine

Wales' goal is now being credited as an own goal by Andriy Yarmolenko, not Gareth Bale.

Not that he will care one bit as long as Wales can hold on.

Former Reading and Wales manager on BBC Radio 5 Live

There have been moments that highlight the good things Wales have done over the last few years.

Our pressing and defensive game is decent. We work really hard as a unit and have attackers on the field who can score goals.

Gareth Bale is a game changer.

It's been fast, it's been furious, it's been frenetic, but at the moment it's going Wales' way.

Don't start dreaming of Qatar yet, there's an awful long way to go.

  12. HALF-TIME - Wales 1-0 Ukrainepublished at 17:49 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

Wales are 45 minutes away from Qatar.

Gareth Bale's deflected free-kick is the difference at the break.

Ukraine have dominated and had the better chances, and may count themselves unlucky not to have had a penalty.

But it is Rob Page's side that lead.

Take a breath, we will be back in 15!

  15. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Wales 1-0 Ukraine

Ukraine are pushing as this first half draws to a close.

They have another corner on the left which isn't dealt with convincingly by Wales, but Wayne Hennessey dives on the loose ball.

Dan James needs to be careful, he received a booking after two minutes for speaking out of turn to the referee and he's just been ferociously protesting what he believed to be a foul against him.

He's [Joe Allen] so lucky, on another day he'd get a penalty for that one.

  18. No penalty!published at 42 mins

    Wales 1-0 Ukraine

Wales have got away with one here.

VAR has had a look and ruled it is not a penalty, I have a feeling the Ukrainian bench may disagree.

  19. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 41 mins

    Wales 1-0 Ukraine

Ukraine appeal for a penalty, and we do have VAR here.

Joe Allen looks to have caught Andriy Yarmolenko in the box, we await a decision.

How people doubt this man I will never ever know.

People keep saying is he going to retire, is this going to be his last game?

This man produces at the highest level on a consistent basis.

Everyone around this ground (apart from the goalkeeper) knew it was going to go in.
