    Scottish Premiership

Here's a reminder of today's top-flight scores on a long day of Scottish football.

Rangers kicked off the day by beating hosts Motherwell 3-1, despite having to play most of the match with 10 men, to narrow the gap between themselves and leaders Celtic to three points.

There's still five points between bottom side Dundee and St Johnstone above them after a 1-1 draw at Dens Park, with the Perth side moving to within five points of the sides above them after home defeats for Aberdeen and St Mirren.

  4. Hartley emotional after 'amazing journey'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: Cove Rangers 1-0 Dumbarton

Cove manager Paul Hartley is delighted with the narrow win that secures promotion to the Championship for the first time - two years ahead of their planned schedule.

"I am just overjoyed with the emotion," he tells BBC Scotland. "The club's been on such a magnificent journey - in 2019 we were going into the play-offs to get into the league and we've managed to get to the Championship three years later.

"It's an unbelievable experience I've been on in the three years. A lot of the players have come from the Highland League and it's an amazing day and I'm so pleased for my chairman, Keith Moorhouse - I think it's something like 25 years he's been with Cove."

  5. Bartley proud of game plan executionpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: Aberdeen 1-2 Livingston

Livingston assistant manager Marvin Bartley is delighted with the win over Aberdeen with boss David Martindale missing the game through illness.

"I think the performance, for probably 60 minutes, was fantastic and I think we controlled the ball well," he tells BBC Scotland.

“We spoke about trying to keep possession and take the sting out of the game and almost try and turn their fans against them.

“I thought the boys were absolutely fantastic. We had to dig in at the end and showed a bit of resilience and that’s what football’s about.

“The boys executed the game plan perfectly, we got the goal and it might have looked against the run of play, but that was the plan to sit off the game and I think from there we went from strength to strength.”

  6. Queens relegation 'a sore one' - Gibsonpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

FT: Queen of the South 1-1 Ayr United

Queen of the South caretaker player-manager Willie Gibson hopes clarity about his own position after his side's relegation from the Championship was confirmed after Ayr's late equaliser.

"It's a sore one to take," he tells BBC Scotland. "We've been up against it for a number of weeks, but we got ourselves in a position where there was light at the end of the tunnel and that last goal was a real sickener.

"Relegation is a horrible feeling - it's the first time I've felt it - but I've told the boys to use the hurt and pain to make sure we don't feel that again."

  7. 'We were the better team' - Goodwinpublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: Aberdeen 1-2 Livingston

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: “Another very frustrating afternoon.

“I thought we were the better team and key moments cost us. We played the majority of the opening period in the Livingston half and had one or two chances.

“In one of Livingston’s few attacks in the opening 45, it’s ended in the back of the net.

“We have to not feel sorry for ourselves, dust ourselves down and put it right next weekend."

  8. 'Psychology worked' - McGheepublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-1 St Johnstone

Dundee manager Mark McGhee believes his pre-match psychology worked and his bottom-placed side can still avoid relegation from the top flight.

The Dens Park had vowed to go naked if his side beat St Johnstone, while also revealing during the week that he had not turned his heating on and was on a strict diet to show his players the sacrifices needed for success.

"Of course it worked," he tells BBC Scotland. "You can't say it didn't work because we drew the game.

"We started brilliantly - the attitude going into this was 'we're going to win this game' - at half-time it looked like there was only going to be one winner. So, yes, of course it worked and it'll work going into the remaining games because we are not conceding.

"We have four games left - anything can happen - and, as long as our players remain in the frame of mind, they've still got a chance of winning football matches."

  9. Gray pleased after 'difficult three weeks'published at 17:32 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian

Hibernian interim head coach David Gray tells BBC Scotland: "I'm delighted with the result and delighted for the boys.

"It's been a real difficult three weeks for them, dealing with the disappointment of not achieving what we set out to do, which was a fourth placed finish at the start of the season, and losing the last two games to Hearts.

"Add to that the disappointment in changing managers.

"You're just asking them to give you 100% and every single player did that. The reaction in training has been really good, it has been for the last couple of weeks. There's been a real intensity and desire and that's something we need to keep up until the end of the season."

  10. 'We're in control of our destiny' - Robinsonpublished at 17:28 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "It's a tough one to take. I thought we were the better team in the second half. It's one long ball over the top that does us.

"There's only 14 fit and available players here. They're playing through injuries, they're digging in and I'm confident we will get through it. We have to dig in, be brave and I'll take the criticism.

"Everybody in the bottom six has to look over their shoulders. It's very much in our hands, we need to put points on the board sooner rather than later and I haven't done that. That's my fault, I'll take the blame. We're in total control of our destiny."

  11. St Johnstone courage pleases Davidsonpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    FT: Dundee 1-1 St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson tells BBC Scotland: "I'm really pleased with the courage my players showed. We didn't quite get there in the first half, we didn't create enough chances, but in the second half we got the goal we deserved.

"Both teams were fighting for their lives and I'm pleased with the point.

"We've got a huge game next week against St Mirren and it'll probably define our season."

Cowdenbeath await the winners in the final and the Fife outfit, already confirmed at the bottom of League 2, warmed up for that with a fine 4-1 win away to Elgin City.

  15. Cove's title as Clyde's tenure comes to sad endpublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Scottish League 1

As mentioned earlier, Cove, who were Highland League champions just three years ago, have clinched the League 1 title thanks to a late winner over Dumbarton.

Second-top Airdrie's 5-0 thumping of Clyde was to no avail as the hosts brought a sad end to their tenure at Broadwood Stadium as they head out of Cumbernauld next season to ground share with Hamilton Academical.

  16. Queens down as Thistle stay fourthpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

    Scottish Championship

Queen of the South are relegated, while Partick Thistle have all but secured the last remaining promotion play-off place.

Ayr's point away to Queens means they move ahead of Dunfermline, who lost to Thistle and drop into the relegation play-off place with one game to go.

Raith Rovers' win away to Hamilton means they remain three points behind Thistle, but they need an eight-goal swing in Friday's final fixtures to stay in the promotion hunt.

  17. FULL-TIME St Mirren 0-1 Hibernianpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Hibs claim their first league victory in two months as David Gray's second interim spell as boss this season gets off to a good start.

It was a fairly woeful game in truth, with only four shots on target throughout the piece.

Ewan Henderson was the man who won it, taking the only clear-cut opportunity of the afternoon when the ball fell kindly to the on-loan Celtic midfielder one-on-one with Jak Alnwick.

Hibs stay seventh but go clear of their hosts by five points.

  18. FULL-TIME Aberdeen 1-2 Livingstonpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Goals from Nicky Devlin and Jason Holt secure all three points for Livingston at Pittodrie.

Lewis Ferguson's spot-kick was too late to help secure a point for Jim Goodwin's side, who had Ross McCrorie sent off in the second half.

The Dons now only have one league win in their last 14 league games and are drawn closer to the relegation zone.

  20. FULL-TIME Dundee 1-1 St Johnstonepublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 23 April 2022

Dundee slip closer to Premiership relegation after failing to hold on to a precious lead against nearest rivals St Johnstone.

Shaun Rooney's second-half header earned the Perth side a draw to leave Dundee five points adrift at the bottom with four games remaining.

Dundee manager Mark McGhee had vowed to go naked for a week if his side earned a first win in 10 matches and he looked destined to a week in the buff thanks to Jordan Marshall's strike until then.

Saints move to within five points of Aberdeen and St Mirren in their bid to avoid the relegation play-off.
