Middlesbrough right-back Isaiah Jones is some talent.

He does excellently down the flank and then sends a ball in for Riley McGree but he can't keep his shot on target.

Midway through the first period at Ewood Park and we are having the first drinks break.

Steve Bruce will be the happier of the two managers at 'quarter time' as he and Jon Dahl Tomasson come on and give some guidance to their players.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Sheff Utd

Marcus Forss' day is over and he's replaced by Middlesbrough debutant Alex Mowatt.

Have to assume that's going to see Boro change shape.

    Blades are on top now.

John Fleck sends in a super cross for Rhian Brewster and his header is flying in, only for Zack Steffen in the home goal to turn it behind for the home side.

Good save from Zack Steffen in the home goal to keep out Max Lowe's effort.

Some neat play from the Blades in the build-up.

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Sheff Utd

Both teams have used one sub so far.

Have to think that how the two managers use their remaining four could prove to be pivotal in this game.

Penalty shout for Blackburn, Ben Brereton Diaz goes down in the box but the referee says no.

The ball broke to the Chile striker but replays showed he went down without any contact on him.

It came after a lovely ball from the right by Ryan Hedges, after good work from Callum Brittain.

    Wow!

What an impact that would have been!

Blades sub Rhian Brewster gets in behind and rounds home goalkeeper Zack Steffen.

Fellow sub Marc Bola gets back and forces it out for a corner.

Kyle Utterson: Excellent response from Middlesbrough who are the better team so far. Sheffield United have to be careful with so many players on unnecessary yellow cards. That could cost them later on in the match.

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Sheff Utd

We're back under way on Teesside and both sides are making a change.

Skipper Billy Sharp, making his first start since March, is off for the Blades for Rhian Brewster and Dael Fry, on a booking, is replaced in the Boro backline by Marc Bola.

    Blackburn 0-0 West Brom

Blackburn's Sam Gallagher's gets the first yellow card of the day after five minutes with a tug of Conor Townsend's shirt.

It's a free-kick which Rovers deal with pretty easily.

  13. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    Blackburn 0-0 West Brom

West Brom haven't come to make up the numbers here. They've had most of the possession so far and have bene looking the more dangerous of the two sides so far.

  14. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    Blackburn 0-0 West Brom

A minute in and West Brom force a corner, but Darnell Furlong's header is over the bar.

West Brom boss Steve Bruce has named the same side that drew 1-1 with Watford for the trip to Ewood Park.

The only change comes on the bench where Alex Mowatt, who has joined Middlesbrough on loan, is replaced by Taylor Gardner-Hickman.

    Half-time at the Riverside.

    Really good fare so far.

The away side took a very early lead through Sander Berge's strike, that Boro goalkeeper Zack Steffen probably should have done better with.

Chuba Akpom levelled for the home side and they've just about had the better of it from there on.

All set for a great second half.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 14 August 2022

    Middlesbrough 1-1 Sheff Utd

Rhys Norrington-Davies goes down in the Boro area looking for a penalty.

Nothing doing and the young Blades defender has to be careful as he's already been booked.

Moments later, home defender Dael Fry becomes the fifth player in the book for a pretty rubbish challenge on Iliman Ndiaye.
