Viborg 0-0 West Ham (1-3 agg)

    Chance!

Gianluca Scamacca is taking up some great positions so far in this game and he has West Ham's first shot on target as he bends a low first-time effort from the edge of the area that Lucas Lund Pedersen has to push away.

Good shot but an equally good save.

Viborg 0-0 West Ham (1-3 agg)

West Ham have a free kick on the right, quite close to the corner flag. Maxwel Cornet fizzes it in hard and low and Tomas Soucek bends down to flick a header over.

Justin Lonwijk, whose younger brother Nigel plays for Plymouth, cuts the ball back inside the area and it is more danger for West Ham but they are able to clear.

The hosts are certainly having their moments.

Out come the players and while the stadium may be under 10,000 capacity there's still a really good atmosphere being generated.

Viborg have never reached the group stage of a European competition before so this could be a historic night for them if they can pull off a shock.

  11. Keep calm and carry on?published at 17:47 British Summer Time 25 August 2022

Viborg v West Ham (18:00 BST)

    Emma Jones
    BBC London

West Ham fans are probably, and understandably, avoiding looking at the Premier League table at the moment. Played three. Lost three. Yet to score a goal.

But the general feeling seems to be: "Keep calm and carry on" (with a few more new signings).

What David Moyes has achieved already means he still has the trust of the fans. And the club seems to have deeper pockets than before when it comes to strengthening the squad.

West Ham should be on the verge of securing a place in the group stages of the Uefa Europa Conference League.

And while a midweek trip to Denmark isn’t the ideal preparation for Sunday’s game at Aston Villa, a good result could put the team in a positive mood as they look for their first Premier League points of the season.

The home fans are out in good numbers for what is a big night for them and making for a great atmosphere already.

West Ham may have a two-goal lead but certainly cannot take anything for granted and failing to secure European football this season would be pretty much unthinkable given their domestic form so far.

Viborg finished seventh in the Danish top flight last term and the home fans inside the 9,500-capacity Viborg Stadion will not make for a comfortable atmosphere for the Hammers

“We want to bring European football to the stadium for the fans,” Jarrod Bowen said.

“We’ve got a two-goal lead, which is a comfortable lead for us, but we’ve got to be respectful of the opposition."

  16. A welcome distractionpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 25 August 2022

Three games, three defeats and no goals scored; it has been far from the perfect start to the Premier League season for West Ham.

Fortunately, European football appears to have provided a welcome distraction with David Moyes' side winning 3-1 at home to Danish side Viborg in the first leg of their Europa Conference League qualifying match.

Will they complete the job in tonight's second leg and seal their place in tomorrow's group draw?
