  2. 'The red card changed things'published at 22:54 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Marseille

Marseille boss Igor Tudor: "There’s a mix of emotions. In the first half, we dominated, and it’s not easy to come here and do that. The red card changed things, and it was more difficult. Neither side was able to create many chances, and two crosses decided the game."

  3. 'Was important to start well in this competition'published at 22:48 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Marseille

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte told BT Sport: "Today we expected a really tough game. Marseille are a physical team but with good quality. In the first half we lost a lot of duels. When you play against this type of team, really aggressive, it's important you can keep the ball. Second half we did this.

"Marseille are a good team. For us it was important to get the three points and start well in this competition. We need to take confidence. They were unbeaten this season.

"Richarlison is in good form. We have to play in two days against Manchester City. Now we have to try to rest and recover well. City played yesterday so have one day more to rest. In my opinion that’s very important."

  4. 'Almost the perfect match'published at 22:44 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Napoli 4-1 Liverpool

Napoli goalscorer Piotr Zielinski to Uefa.com: “I had a good game, aside from the two goals. But what I’m happy about is the team performance we did well and deserved to win.

"It was almost the perfect match. We don’t know how far we can go from here."

  5. 'It looks like we have to reinvent ourselves'published at 22:40 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Napoli 4-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

More from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "We played bad in the first half but usually we don't concede three goal. With Alisson in goal, you have to be really bad for that to happen. We played here when we lost 2-0 and that was an awful game. It looks like we have to reinvent ourselves. There is a lot of things lacking, the fun part is that we have to do it in the middle of a Premier League an Champions League season. We have Wolves on Saturday and if they saw the game tonight, they cannot stop laughing, they would say - and I would too - it is the perfect moment to play them. We have to set up better in pretty much everything.

"Lots of soul searching, you could see that on the pitch. We are not working as a team, it is not personal stuff or pointing (at each other). In football there are always solutions. We don't play good enough, that is obvious and that is why we lose games. We play in the strongest league in the world and have a pretty good Champions League group. There is a job to do, my responsibility and I need time to think about it. There are a few obvious things and we have to reset and go."

  6. Postpublished at 22:38 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Marseille

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Antonio Conte: "These nights are very special. Before the game we spoke with the players to say we know very well what we did last season, the great job and sacrifices and everyone made so we could have this night... I think we felt a bit of pressure in this competition, but at the end we have to be pleased."

  7. Postpublished at 22:35 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Marseille

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte told Uefa: "I remember very well when Richi [Richarlison] signed for us and he said 'I can't wait to play in the Champions League and listen to the music'.

"When a player says these words, it means he has great desire and great will."

  8. 'Everything is obvious but why it happened, I cannot answer now'published at 22:32 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Napoli 4-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp tells BT Sport: "Really tough to take, it's not that difficult to explain when you watched the game. To start with the two penalties, OK first of all Napoli played a really good game, we didn't, that is the first explanation for the defeat.

"They scored one penalty and missed another but the next two goals we served on a plate and we should defend better. 3-0 down having chances but never really in the game. We were not compact defensively or offensively. Until Thiago entered the pitch I cannot remember one counter-pressing situation, we were too wide.

"Everything is obvious but why it happened, I cannot answer now, let me think about about it. It is a really tough cookie to take, but I have to take it."

  9. 'Chelsea need to go for Potter'published at 22:31 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

    On Chelsea sacking Thomas Tuchel

The owners want to build something new. I found it a strange decision when I heard it this morning. It’s baffling but that’s management, I’m sure he’ll move onto another top club. But for me now, they need to go for Graham Potter. He’s the perfect manager for them.

  10. 'We kept knocking on the door'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Marseille

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane tells BT Sport: "Tough game, playing against a really good Marseille team who have had a great start to the season. Difficult in the Champions League, we needed to start strong at home and the sending off helped. In the end Richarlison popped off a couple of goals.

"We did not keep the ball well in the first half, second half was a bit better but we kept knocking on the door and kept putting the crosses in.

"It is really important to start well in the Champions League, we have done that and delighted to get the three points. We have a busy five days with Manchester City away then travelling to Sporting Lisbon.

"Richarlison has been great since coming in, trained hard, waited of his opportunities and played well when he got them. Couple of great headers today."

  11. Postpublished at 22:19 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Atletico Madrid 2-1 Porto

Atletico Madrid v Porto is only the second match in Champions League history to see three goals scored in the 90th minute or later after... Porto v Atletico Madrid in December 2021.

  12. 'Alexander-Arnold needs to improve'published at 22:16 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Napoli 4-1 Liverpool

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Trent Alexander-Arnold is a brilliant player, on the ball. Off the ball, he does need to improve defensively. But what he gives Liverpool going up the other end of the pitch outweighs the defensive side of the game for me.

  13. 'We have to continue like this'published at 22:14 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 Marseille

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham winger Ivan Perisic told BT Sport: "We should do better from the first minute, we were a bit nervous with the ball but defended well and kept a clean sheet. We have to keep going, do a bit better with the ball but it was a bit easier 11 v 10.

"We signed a lot of new players and need some time, especially in the Champions League. We have to continue like this and are in a good way."

  14. 'We deserve this result'published at 22:12 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    FT: Napoli 4-1 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson to BT Sport: "We were miles too open. You can't come to a place like this and not be compact. They were by miles the better team.

"Too many times they had spaces to run at us and cause us problems. You come away in the Champions League and you can't be wide open like that. We have to get back to basics and be compact.

"We deserve this result. The way we were wide open they found so many spaces. It felt like they had an extra man.

"You have to be ready to fight. We weren't close enough to our mate.

"We have to wake up and quickly because we can't perform like that."

  15. 'Liverpool couldn't handle it'published at 22:05 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Napoli 4-1 Liverpool

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Really impressed with Napoli, especially the first half. They were better throughout the team. The three in midfield really dominated the game and Liverpool couldn’t handle the runs in behind them.

    A WINNER!

It comes in the 101st minute.

A young Porto fan is crying in the stands.

  19. Elsewhere in Europepublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 7 September 2022

    Atletico Madrid 1-1 Porto

    Oh, more drama in Madrid!

Mario Hermoso is again involved as he uses his arm to divert a deflected cross out of the path of a Porto forward.

Jan Oblak goes the right way with the dive but Mateus Uribe's penalty just squeezes under the keeper and into the corner.

A fair result at the moment. Is there time for a winner?
