Finally. Arsenal get a deserved opener.

The Gunners counter at pace and Gabriel Martinelli finds Kieran Tierney in space. He hits the far post from a tight angle - excellent shot - and Eddie Nketiah reacts quickly to sweep in the rebound.

  6. 'The subs made an impact'published at 20:12 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

    FT: Omonia 2-3 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaking to BT Sport: "We started well, then an unnecessary mistake and a really bad 10 minutes. We have to learn from it. You let the crowd get alive, you have to avoid that."

What he said at half-time: "More runs, we are too static, we have to make the opposition move to get behind - that is why we made two subs. The subs really had an impact today.

On Martial: "We have already seen in pre-season, it was really disappointing when he got injured, it had an impact on our team's performance.

"It has to only be a warm up, on Sunday we have to react."

Honestly it's just a matter of time until Arsenal score here. Granit Xhaka finds Kieran Tierney down the left. He crosses and it's deflected out to Fabio Vieira, who controls the ball on his chest and hits a half-voley which just glances the top of the crossbar.

  12. 'I didn't expect us to score twice!'published at 20:04 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

    FT: Omonia 2-3 Man Utd

Omonia Nicosia manager Neil Lennon: "We rode our luck a lot of times, we kept ourselves in the game with good goalkeeping and a lot of Man Utd missed chances. I didn't expect us to score two goals!

"It's going to be a different game at Old Trafford, but we have seen them up close and know what their weaknesses are. We will go there and give it everything we've got."

Will any of his players have regrets?: "Some of the players will, yeah. The first two goals we were too open at centre-half then Bruno misses the chance with the lob. There were things we could have done better with ball retention. The gulf between the teams was there, but I'm delighted with two goals."

  17. 'Job done - but could have been better'published at 19:56 British Summer Time 6 October 2022

    FT: Omonia 2-3 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford speaking to BT Sport: "Job done, but we would have liked to have played better. We didn't defend badly, but we made mistakes.

"The first 35 minutes until they scored we were playing well, we just could have got in behind them more. Then when he made the subs he [Erik ten Hag] wanted us to be more dynamic, take chances going forward and score goals.

On his best position: "Left side is probably more natural for me, but I like playing both [left wing and centre forward] and helping the team. If we have got injuries you never know what might happen, where you might be needed to play."

On Anthony Martial: "He is a massive player for us, has been for a long time. When he is happy and at it he is an unbelievable player. We've both been injured, him longer than me, so it is good for him to get minutes and make an impact."

    Arsenal v Bodo/Glimt (20:00 BST)

Arsenal have failed to win their past three home matches in Europe (D2 L1), their worst such run since one of six between October 2002 and September 2003.

In European competition, Bodo/Glimt have won just one of their past 13 away matches (D7 L5), a 3-1 victory at Celtic in February. They’ve also kept just one clean sheet in this run, a goalless draw at CSKA Sofia last season.

United should count themselves very lucky that second half. Its a dangerous game playing get-Ronaldo-a-goal when at 2-1. They should have finished that match 3 or 4 goals ahead but instead ran the risk of embarrassing themselves further for the sake of trying to keep the old geezer happy. I say keep him benched, Rashford and Martial showing their worth, keep faith in them and I think it will be rewarded.
