England, Republic of Ireland and Scotland have been given tricky assignments, while Wales and Northern Ireland will be feeling hopeful. You can review all the groups in our news story here.

Plenty to look forward to when the on-pitch action begins next year.

Below the headline acts, Group G contains Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro and Bulgaria.

Spicy.

If you think England got a tough draw, spare a thought for Republic of Ireland.

Netherlands and world champions France to contend with. It would be quite the achievement should the Irish reach the finals.

That said, it has been done before - Mick McCarthy's heroes eliminated Louis van Gaal's Dutch in qualifying to reach the 2002 World Cup.

Northern Ireland's Euro 2024 group opposition will include Denmark, Finland and Slovenia with the Republic up against the Netherlands and France.

Group H contains Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, San Marino and Northern Ireland.

As I said earlier, the Northern Irish would probably have taken that from the options available. They will have to up their form considerably from the Nations League, but is second place realistically on?

It has been pointed out that Group C contains the top seeds from pot 1 (Italy), pot 2 (England), pot 3 (Ukraine) and pot 4 (North Macedonia).

So much for England always getting the easy draw.

Will Wales be happy with their group?

Croatia, Armenia, Turkey, Latvia - Rob Page would have taken that before we started.

Wales eliminated Turkey from their group in Euro 2020. They will eye a repeat.

Scotland are drawn against Spain, Norway, Georgia and Cyprus in their qualifying group for Euro 2024.

Only the top two go through automatically, so Scotland will have to do better than Spain and an Erling Haaland-fired Norway to reach Germany directly.

Steve Clarke's side may need that Nations League play-off route after all.

So what do we make of that then?

Group C is full, as they say, of narrative. England and Italy, who met in the Euro 2020 final, will face off in qualifying. North Macedonia, who knocked Italy out of 2022 World Cup qualifying, do battle again. Ukraine, unable to play on home soil due to the Russian invasion, are also involved.

Very much one to watch.

Group I: Switzerland. Israel, Romania, Kosovo, Belarus, Andorra

Group J: Portugal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Liechtenstein

Now Pot 6, which has three teams to go into H, I and J.

Group H: Denmark, Finland, Slovenia, Kazakhstan, Northern Ireland.

That's not a bad group for the Northern Irish.
