    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Northern Ireland launch a good attack down the left flank.

Emily Wilson cuts inside well and finds Joely Andrews with an inviting pass but Andrews just isn't able to get enough power on her shot, and can only fire straight at the keeper.

Encouraging, though, for the home side.

  2. NI missing Magill and Furness - Redmondpublished at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Quote Message

As the game carries on at 0-0 your mind does turn to where the goals are going to come from and Northern Ireland are certainly missing Simone Magill and Rachel Furness. We hope Rachel will be back wearing the green and white again at some stage.

  4. Postpublished at 20:12 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

More good pressing from Northern Ireland's front players forces a throw-in as Italy try to play the ball out from the back.

  5. Postpublished at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Christiana Girelli has scored 53 times for Italy.

She looks to add to that impressive tally with a header from a right-wing cross, but there is very little power behind it as it drifts wide of the post.

  6. Postpublished at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Chloe McCarron looks to find Caragh Hamilton coming in off the right flank, clever idea but the pass was just too strong.

Italy break at the other end but Demi Vance does really well to block the shot.

  7. Postpublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

NI keeper Jackie Burns got a bit lucky there.

She misjudged just how deep a cross from the right was and wasn't able to collect, but luckily for here there were no Italians at the back post waiting to take advantage.

Joely Andrews ended the season in really strong form for Glentoran, so it'll be interesting to see if she can carry that momentum onto the international stage.

  9. Andrews on for Caldwellpublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

One change for Northern Ireland at half time, with Joely Andrews coming on for Nadene Caldwell.

One change for the visitors as well with Sofia Cantore on for Barbara Bonansea.

    Second half incoming.

  10. NI loving life at Seaviewpublished at 19:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

You can see why Northern Ireland love playing at Seaview.

It's nice and compact, so, as we've witnessed in the past, it's difficult for the bigger nations to strut their stuff. Yet, it's just expansive enough for the attacking trio to use their pace on the counter.

Italy's flair players are struggling to get time on the ball and the defence, superbly marshalled by Sarah McFadden, are holding firm without too many problems.

I think Kenny Shiels will be pleased with what he has seen from his NI side in the first half. He will have an idea of what he wants to get out of this game. Italy are a quality opposition and to feel the buzz from the sell-out crowd at Seaview is excellent.

Nadene Caldwell tries her luck with a long-range curler.

She catches it well, but it was never turning back enough to find the target.

  14. It's a contact sportpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

It looks like Northern Ireland centre-half Sarah McFadden had a bit of trouble with a contact lens there.

She is back playing on now.

One to keep an eye on, though.

    (Sorry, I'll get my coat).

  15. Postpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Good break forward from left back by Northern Ireland's Demi Vance.

She fed the ball into Emily Wilson and her control let her down, but NI boss Kenny Shiels will be encouraged by Vance's strong running.

  16. Postpublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Another comfortable save from NI keeper Jackie Burns, this time from Girelli.

She has looked confident so far.

  17. Postpublished at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Remember as a kid when you got the ball square in the face but didn't want to let on it was sore?

That's what I imagine Demi Vance was doing there - and she did it well.

She closed down a clearance and for her trouble got a powerful whack in the face, but she took a few deep breaths and carried on.

    That's the stuff.

  18. Postpublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Best chance of the night so far!

Should Italy be in front or did Northern Ireland keeper Jackie Burns do enough?>

Manuela Giugliano gets in on goal, the angle was tight but her shot goes the wrong side of the post as Burns came off her line well.

  19. What's Kenny thinking?published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2022

    Northern Ireland 0-0 Italy

Northern Ireland manager Kenny Shiels should be relatively happy with how his side have competed in the opening 25 minutes.

Italy force another corner down their right hand side after good working back by Emily Wilson.

Again, it comes to nothing for the visitors, though.
