  4. Another tight affair?published at 14:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

Cove Rangers v Partick Thistle (15:00)

    Tyrone Smith
    BBC Scotland at Balmoral Stadium

Scottish Championship survival is the priority for Cove Rangers this term, promotion from the second tier is the target for Partick Thistle.

The fact they are separated by just six points going into this afternoon’s Balmoral Stadium meeting serves to illustrate how little there is between all the teams in the division.

Cove will be reasonably happy with how things are going so far, they may be eighth in the table but they have a six-point cushion from the bottom, and are well within striking distance of the teams above them.

Fifth-placed Thistle have dropped out of the top four after a bumpy couple of months, but will be hoping that back-to-back wins - in the league and the Scottish Cup - signal a change in fortunes and a move back in the right direction again.

The sides shared four goals when they last met, in Maryhill in September, and don’t be surprised if this edition of the fixture is a similarly tight, goal-laden affair.

    Queen's Park v Hamilton Academical (15:00)

Queen’s Park are back at Hampden, well for the next two games.

It’s fairly eerie at the moment, not sure how many fans we’re going to see inside the national stadium, I’m told they’ve given plenty of tickets away to schools and other community groups in the south side of Glasgow and Hamilton too.

But the experience of playing here is exciting many - I've spoken to one or two of the players on the way in and they’re looking forward to it. The chance to play at the national stadium doesn’t come along every day of the week. The pitch looks fabulous and very different to the surfaces both are used to.

Both sides come into this one off the back of good Scottish Cup wins last weekend, but in the league they are in contrasting form.

  7. The games...published at 14:06 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

    Scottish Championship (15:00)

Remember I mentioned Raith Rovers earlier? Well, they can move to within four points of current leaders Ayr United with victory at Somerset Park this afternoon.

It's a big game for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Dundee in the Highlands with the hosts hoping to re-ignite their promotion charge and the visitors keen to keep the pressure on Ayr.

Partick Thistle have a similar mission to Inverness away to Cove Rangers, who are very much in between the league's strugglers and promotion chasers.

Second bottom Arbroath host second top Greenock Morton and Queen's Park, in fourth, welcome bottom side Hamilton Academical.

  8. Championship characteristically tightpublished at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 3 December 2022

In the second tier, there are only two points between first and fourth and then a four-point gap to those in fifth and sixth.

Then there's Raith Rovers in seventh, who are closer to top spot than bottom. The bottom two, meanwhile, are starting to look a bit detached.

Today's fixtures could cause a significant shift in all of that, at least until the next set of games.
