The United States are up bright and early, rallying the fans for a day of "Knockout Round soccer".

We've reached Day 14 in Qatar and it's all change.

It's felt like Christmas every day with four group matches per day.

But the knockout stage starts here and that means two games each day.

Who will be the first teams to book their place in the quarter-finals?

Netherlands v United States (15:00 GMT).

Argentina v Australia (19:00).

More from Serbia boss Drgan Stojkovic , who said his squad faced "niggles and injuries" to key players in Qatar. "This was very difficult to manage," he added. "It was difficult to have a high level of performance at a World Cup.

"Of course there was a period over the last few years where we had a success streak but now we faced a dip [in form].

"It goes without saying that we had problems in defence, but this would have to undergo a deeper analysis.

"I shook the players' hands and said they must keep their heads up. They really did their best and gave their maximum."

Serbia manager Dragan Stojkovic said he was not aware of alleged abusive chants from Serbian supporters during the match despite being queried about a reported in-game announcement asking for fans to respect the rules.

He said: "No, no I didn't hear, but from my position I was very focused on the game and I didn't hear nothing about it."

Stojkovic partially blamed injuries for his side's performance, and mostly echoed Switzerland boss Murat Yakin's belief that simmering tensions, which resulted in a second heated encounter late in the second half, boiled over in an expected fashion.

Asked if his side were provoked by something a Swiss player said, Stojkovic replied: "Maybe, but I don't know what's happening exactly. I can't give you the reason why. Sometimes the tensions come, and some maybe bad words can create some uncomfortable behaviour.

"But it's nothing special. It's normal for these kinds of games."

Switzerland boss Murat Yakin denied that politics were at the heart of two incidents in his side's win over Serbia, insisting any rumours to the contrary were "just speculation".

The previous meeting between the two teams at the World Cup in Russia in 2018 stirred up controversy when Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, both of Albanian-Kosovan heritage, were fined for their goal celebrations - hand gestures imitating a double-headed eagle symbol similar to the one on the Albanian flag.

Shaqiri, who scored the first of Switzerland's three goals on Friday, did not repeat the gesture.

The match nonetheless featured heated exchanges, including subs rushing onto the pitch to join the tussle after Aleksandar Mitrovic lost an appeal to the referee for a foul.

"What I saw was a Granit Xhaka who focused fully on football today and who performed very well," said Yakin.

"I don't know exactly what happened on the pitch. I just saw the players from Serbia crossing the sidelines, and I think other players tried to calm them down.

"I think that was just a very normal exchange, as it happens in football. You know, emotions are involved with such a game. Without emotions, I think that would be too much to expect."

Dani Alves became Brazil's oldest captain at the sprightly age of 39 on Friday but the full-back reminded his side after their defeat by Cameroon that the path to World Cup glory won't be an easy one for the five-time winners.

"It's a warning signal," Alves. "There is no weak rival. Here is the lesson, we need to stay switched on throughout the game. One detail and it's over.

"We end today with the feeling that a beautiful day slipped through the hands of us players who weren't playing much."

Cameroon's time in Qatar has come to end at the group stage but coach Rigobert Song is drawing on the positive aspects of his side's World Cup journey.

"It's a real shame that we have to go home now, but you need to look on the bright side," said Song. "We need to keep working and keep moving, I trust in my players,"

"I'm trying to get across a team sprit, that lion's spirit, which has been the key to Cameroon teams over the years. We have a young team and perhaps we haven't had enough time together, but we can be a very, very good team."

Song's goalkeeper Devis Epassy walked away with the man of the match award but there was still disappointment despite the win.

"We can be proud of what we've done tonight because we've shown that we can also be a top team, we worked hard for each other, we worked very hard," he said.

"Unfortunately though, we don't qualify for the next round, that's why we are not too happy, but it's not on account of tonight's performance."

The injury rumour mill is swirling around Brazil this morning.

Fabrizio Romano first tweeted, external that sources close to Gabriel Jesus say he is suffering with pain in his knee but is expected to be back in January with Arsenal.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has provided an injury update on the squad, with defender Danilo showing good signs of recovery, while Neymar is racing against time to be fit to face South Korea on Monday.

Both Danilo and Neymar suffered ankle injuries in Brazil's opening 2-0 win over Serbia, which ruled them out of their 1-0 win over Switzerland and the loss to Cameroon on Friday.

"Danilo has been evolving very positively and today," said Lasmar. "He did intense work with the ball and has adapted functionally very positively. The expectation is tomorrow he will be able to train normally with all players."

In regards to Paris St-Germain forward Neymar, he added: "We think we have time on our hands and there is a possibility."

The wins for Senegal over Ecuador and now Cameroon over Brazil, they're the first wins for African nations over South Americans since Cameroon beat Argentina and Colombia in 1990, so there's a bit of history there.

You saw how furious the Brazil players were. They did not want to be on the pitch for what will be seen as humiliation, at least where I'm living (Brazil).

Yes, it was a much-changed side, but still it's there in the record books that Brazil have lost to African opposition for the first time in the World Cup.

The coach Tite will face awkward questions now. He wanted to give these players a chance and few of them stood out.

Cameroon defeated a Brazil side resting a host of regulars but still saw their World Cup campaign ended after an entertaining encounter at Lusail Stadium.

Vincent Aboubakar header the winner in stoppage time but his joy immediately turned to disappointment as he was given a second yellow card for taking his shirt off.

Cameroon had acquitted themselves well throughout as Bryan Mbuemo brought an outstanding save from Manchester City's Ederson, deputising for Liverpool keeper Alisson, but Switzerland's victory over Serbia ended the African team's chances of reaching the last 16.

With his side having already qualified after their first two games, Brazil coach Tite made 10 changes and Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli took the chance to impress with a fine performance in which he was thwarted on several occasions by Cameroon keeper Devis Epassy.

The pre-tournament favourites finished top of Group G despite the loss and now meet South Korea in the knockout phase after their dramatic late win against Portugal saw them edge out Uruguay, who beat Ghana, on goals scored.

Switzerland sealed their place in the World Cup last 16 following an entertaining five-goal victory over Serbia to round off the group stage.

Switzerland, who knew a draw would be enough to qualify, took an early lead through former Stoke and Liverpool forward Xherdan Shaqiri.

Serbia turned it around in the first half, going 2-1 up with goals from Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic and centre-forward partner Dusan Vlahovic - and they would have gone through as things stood.

The entertainment did not stop there though, as Switzerland's Breel Embolo equalised on the stroke of half-time when he poked in from close range.

With Serbia needing to win, the second half promised further twists but it was Switzerland who struck next - Embolo coolly flicking it on for Nottingham Forest's Remo Freuler to thump a half-volley into the net and make it 3-2 in their favour.

Further chances came for both sides but Switzerland held on to set up a meeting with Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the next round, while Serbia are eliminated.

Despite their defeat to Cameroon a much-changed Brazil sealed top spot in Group G.

Switzerland joined them with a win over Serbia, in a game they led, trailed and then won.

We had a dramatic ending where another Cameroon goal and a Serbia equaliser would have seen the African nation through, but the goals never came.

Time for us to leave Group H there.

We'll cover Group G, which Brazil and Switzerland progressed from in a couple of minutes.

But, first, an update of which Premier League players have exited the tournament and who is still involved.

Portugal were already safely through to the knockout stages but coach Fernando Santos was still disappointed that his side didn't end on a high note.

"We lost our organisation, our focus, and Korea controlled more of the game," said Santos.

"Of course our players were motivated, but we conceded a goal when they were on a counter-attack and this can happen at a major tournament.

"We are upset. We finished first of the group, but we wanted to win, and we wanted a better game in order to increase the morale of the players.

"That said, they will not be unmotivated. I trust my team, but this result serves as a warning to them."

The so-called 'grudge match' with Uruguay didn't go the way of the Ghanians at the Al Janoub Stadium last night but the Ghana Football Association still thanked everyone involved with the Black Stars' World Cup campaign for their "unflinching, unwavering and unalloyed" support.
