On England, Olivier Giroud added: "It will be very tough with [Kyle] Walker and [Harry] Maguire, I've played a lot of games against these guys.

"I know them well and they know me well. The game will come down to details.

"It's not just me against them though, it's a French team that must stick together and be in the game at all times.

"They will grab any opportunity to score, so we have to stay strong together. I will have to try and score.

"I'm sure it will be a great game to watch. The main thing for us is to win."

  5. 'It's a family in the national team'published at 14:31 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Olivier Giroud on injuries: "I think the French team have been very strong together, we have a great cohesion but we want to remember the boys that are at home injured.

"We are thinking of them and winning for them. It's a family in the national team and we feel blessed because we still have so may qualities.

"Unfortunately, we don't have these great players but we still have great players in the team so we want to go as far as we can."

  6. 'Impressed by Morocco coach Regraguipublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

    Morocco v Spain (15:00 GMT)

    John Bennett
BBC World Service Sport at the Education City stadium

I was really impressed by the way Morocco coach Walid Regragui handled the pre-match press conference yesterday ahead of one of the biggest games in the country’s history. For one thing he answered questions in four different languages.

He also did the perfect job of balancing having confidence in his players without piling on any pressure. The quote that really stood out for me is that his Morocco team "will come out swinging."

He’s already got an impressive CV having led Wydad AC to the African Champions League title this year but the 47-year old’s career will be interesting to watch after this World Cup."

  7. World Cup favourites?published at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

Spain are only sixth favourites for the World Cup, according to a prediction model from Opta.

The model suggests Brazil now have a better than one-in-four chance to win their sixth World Cup, as they widened the gap from second-favourites Argentina, who face Louis van Gaal's Netherlands in Friday's quarter-final.

France have a marginally better probability than England of lifting the trophy, according to Opta's data. The two nations meet on Saturday.

Morocco? They're the least likely team left to win the trophy.

    Final word from Olivier Giroud.

On England captain Harry Kane, the France striker said: "I've spoken to Hugo Lloris about Harry Kane because he has a profile that can maybe be compared to mine.

"He's very powerful and over the last few years he's moved further down the pitch to be more involved in the game.

"He's also very good at assists and a good finisher that's clinical. He's generous with his team mates and has the ability to hurt opponents.

"He's obviously a great asset to the English team. There's similarities between us but differences too."

  9. 'The photoshops have made me laugh'published at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

    France

Olivier Giroud on his 'bromance' with Kylian Mbappe: "There is nothing calculated about the photo, it was a really nice photo and the photoshops have made me laugh.

"Sport makes us live amazing things and it wasn't a winning goal in a final but it was important.

"I really enjoy playing with him [Mbappe] and we just want to make our supporters happy."

Olivier Giroud on whether there has been any change to Didier Deschamps management style over the years: "I don't think he's changed fundamentally in his habits or in the way he deals with the team.

"I see him talk a lot more with the players now, maybe there was a bit less of that in Euro 2021. The closer we get to a match, the more he engages in exchanging ideas.

"He's still got the same desire to win, with the same level of competition in him."

Final word from Fance assistant coach Guy Stephan now. On forward Kylian Mbappe being care-free, he says: "For sure, he has grown in maturity and experience. He's grown up on the pitch and his positioning is no longer the same on the pitch. He knows what his qualities are and he can play beyond his emotions."

  14. 'We can't just play with the amazing forwards'published at 14:00 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

More from France assistant coach Guy Stephan, talking about the system France play: "We can always do better of course. I think how the team is composed right now with four defenders in the midfield works.

"The way that the team is made, with the players that are there, we have to accept the imbalance. We can't just play with the amazing forwards."

  15. 'Lloris knows how Kane moves on the pitch'published at 13:53 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

On goalkeeper Hugo Lloris playing against his Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane, Guy Stephan said: "Lloris is going to fight, I'm not going to tell you any of his secrets. I think he's going to play on Saturday and he's got an amazing record.

"He knows Harry Kane, he knows how he kicks the ball and how he moves on the pitch. We can consider that as a match within a match because they play for the same club.

"They'll be talking to each other when they get back to Tottenham but hopefully one will be more happier than the other!"

  16. Giroud is 'off the planet with his skills'published at 13:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

    Olivier GiroudImage source, Getty Images

France assistant coach Guy Stephan on Oliver Giroud, who made history by becoming France's all-time top men's goalscorer during the win over Poland: "I don't know how long it will stand, it's amazing to get to this level and if we compare him to Thierry Henry then it's the same number of selections and caps. So that shows you how difficult it is to get to that record.

"Kylian Mbappe has already scored nine goals in a World Cup, he's not even 24, he's a very big footballer like Ronaldo and Messi and they haven't scored as many.

"He's elite, off the planet with his skills and expresses his creativity very well on the pitch. He likes moving around the pitch, with an amazing technical ability. He shows this at every game."

  17. 'England are a very good team'published at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

France assistant coach Guy Stephan on England's performances so far: "England are a very good team, very solid and they're very strong offensively.

"[Marcus] Rashford, [Phil] Foden, [Raheem] Sterling and others run fast down the wings. We mustn't forget that they were finalists in the Euros and semi-finalists in the last World Cup.

"They can play a couple of systems. They played a 4-4-2 but they can also have wing-backs on the side."

England have proven from the very first game that we are the most dynamic team, with the deepest squad depth. I would hazard a guess that the other nations harbour a certain envy of the options we possess on the bench. Jude Bellingham is going to be crucial in the France game - he will be the thread knitting together our defensive/offensive lines. I believe that as long as England don't get a touch of stage fright against the reigning champions then we will be a far superior unit. Shearer is right - people should fear us!

  20. Bellingham denied Real Madrid move by Hendersonpublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2022

England v France Sat, 19:00 GMT)

There's been a lot of talk about Jude Bellingham's next destination, will he return to England to play in the Premier League, or could a move to La Liga's Real Madrid be on the cards?

Well, if England team-mate Jordan Henderson has anything to do with it, the 19-year-old won't be going to Spain.

I think that was a firm no from Hendo, don't you?
