England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps is asked a question about the death of a migrant worker in Qatar: "It is a sensitive topic and it's not something I want to talk about at length. I've just heard about it and I would like to express my sincere condolences and to the family on behalf of the federation.

"We're involved in a tournament here so my priority is the match tomorrow. It doesn't mean we're not concerned with everything outside football but you shouldn't mix everything up.

"What else would you like me to say? You asked the question but you knew what I would reply.

"I'm not trying to avoid the question but I'm here with my team and we are here to play at a football tournament. Footballers are not in a position to resolve problems outside football.

"This is more than a problem, someone has lost their life but the pain and suffering his family are feeling needs to be respected too."

  2. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps on Southgate: "I very much like Gareth. We have met and talked on a number of occasions. But if I understand correctly, not everyone appreciates him so much in his own country.

"That isn't because he wasn't a good footballer himself. He had a long, distinguished career and he is also a very good coach. He has enabled England to get some very good results over the years and I very much like him."

  3. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps on whether France are over-reliant on Mbappe: "England will have prepared for Kylian, but he is in a position to make the difference.

"We have other players, but Kylian is Kylian and he can make the difference."

  4. 'We're not weak on set pieces'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps on whether France are weaker on set pieces than they were in 2018: "I don't agree set pieces is one of our weaknesses but I'm not here to tick boxes. We have had to focus on certain things and if you need to focus on certain aspects of game where you can make a difference, that's something I add to training sessions.

"We were perhaps stronger on set pieces in other years but we can still show we are dangerous and I think we're stronger in certain areas. Set pieces remain one of the strengths of the England team."

  5. 'England have no weaknesses'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps on England's weaknesses: "They don't have any.

"All teams have strengths, not all have many weaknesses, but slightly less strong points.

"England have seen us play four games. At the end of the day, you need to identify areas where you think you can attack them."

  6. 'We won't play with the handbrake on'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps on managing discipline and players on yellow cards: "They know what to do. We need to say be careful, but you can't expect them to play with the handbrakes on.

"They are going to have to dig deep and give everything.

"I think playing with the handbrake on will be the worst thing we can do."

  7. 'Not by chance'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Deschamps on the importance of speed and qualities of England : "Pace is often one of the keys to the match. When quick, the opponent has less time to be organised. You need more than just pace to score goals. You can stop a lot of things but it's very difficult to stop someone who is very quick, especially in transitions.

"England team very strong in that area though and scored lots of goals with quick counter-attacks. They also have many other qualities in terms of technical ability, capacity to score goals and being dangerous on set pieces.

"It's not by chance they are facing us in the quarter-finals."

  8. 'They are serene'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Didier Deschamps on the atmosphere in the France squad: "They are calm, they are remaining very serene and that's true since the beginning of the tournament.

"You have top focus on each match and we're now in the quarter-finals. There is no point being stressed and putting yourself under pressure.

"The objective is to get through to the semi-finals."

  9. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

    Hugo Lloris has headed out.

Now it's going to be Didier's turn.

    We went early before!

  10. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on his own performance and playing the ball out from the back: "That is not for me to judge. I help the team and be decisive.

"Every team is putting the goalkeeper under pressure when they have the ball at their feet. Sometimes you make tough choices and not always the right one, but at this stage of the tournament, you have to be as perfect as you can."

  11. 'Kane makes the difference'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on Harry Kane: "We have a very strong relationship. We have been playing together for nine years and know each other very well on and off the pitch. I only have positive things to say. He's a very important player for the club and indeed for the England team as well.

"He's a real leader, an example for his team-mates and he is a top player. He's been decisive for his club and very often he makes the difference and like all of the players on Saturday, he will be determined to try and get his team through to the next round.

"Harry is known all over the world so I can't really add much. But he'll be an opponent. We'll both be representing our countries so our focus will be on that."

  12. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on the difference in refereeing in England and the English media singling him out as a weak link for France: "I have nothing to say, no message for the English media. We have to ignore it, we don't need more motivation. But we need to do our talking on the pitch.

"Refereeing is slightly different on set-pieces, more physical moments. The English players are very honest. We have to adapt and that is what I've done.

"We need to make the right choices on the pitch - we are up for the challenge."

  13. 'Kane one of the best at penalties'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on whether he feels confident for a possible penalty shootout against club colleague Harry Kane: You know better than me that Harry has the ability to shoot anywhere. He's one of the best probably at this aspect of the game.

"Obviously for Harry or the other English players, they will be analysing their penalties. Then, it is all about feeling, all about instinct that you get during the match.

"Before you get to a penalty shootout, it is the time to make the difference on the pitch. We'll see. Anything can become decisive in what will be a big game.

"We have to be ready for every scenario."

  14. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on the England v France rivalry: "My two last children were born in England, my daughters have grown up there. There is a rivalry between England and France, two major footballing nations. They are two strong teams.

"As players we need to make sure we are up to a quarter-final at the World Cup, regardless of who we are playing. England are ambitious; they are here to win the World Cup and we have to prepare."

  15. 'England are here to win'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on whether France have an advantage because they have won the World Cup: "To be honest, if we compare both sides, there were more English players at the World Cup in Russia than French players.

"If you look at the English squad, they were semi-finalists, runners-up at the last Euros. They have had a real progression and I believe this team is getting mature and ready to compete for trophies. They were a bit unlucky at the last Euros. They are here to win.

"In our side, there were a lot of changes with a new generation of players. They are ready to compete as all play in best clubs in Europe.

"We have a good mixture of young and experienced players. We try to develop step-by-step to become stronger and have to make sure we are ready to challenge England.

"It will be a big battle. There is everything for a big game and it's up to the players to perform."

  16. 'Mbappe ignoring the talk'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on Kylian Mbappe: "Kylian is preparing very well, he is ignoring the talk about him. He is focused on his objectives, and seems very happy, as he has been since the tournament began."

  17. 'Every detail will count'

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

    France

Lloris on his knowledge of the England players: "Of course the English are well known all over the world, thanks to their clubs. Most of our players know them very well and are quite used to play against them.

Some of us play with them and train with them on a daily basis and if we can help with any particular knowledge then of course we will do that."

On set pieces: "Of course that's a strength. They're very tall and have players who deliver very well. I think that every little detail will count so we'll have to be very strong. In our attack we also have what it takes to make it difficult for them."

  18. Post update

England v France (Sat, 19:00 GMT)

SMS Message: I have to sort of agree with Roy Keane, I think a little dance after a first goal might be ok, but every goal is a bit silly. As for the manager, it’s just a bit weird. Can you imagine Pep or Klopp dancing on the touchline after a goal is scored…? from Anon
    Anon
SMS Message: As far as I’m aware dancing has never been a problem at previous tournaments. I don’t understand why people are so hostile towards it? I bet if Kane, Rashford and Saka did a dance after scoring it would be circulated on TikTok within seconds from Anon

Not sure how across TikTok Roy Keane is but no doubt he would enjoy it...

Oh and please remember to put your name on What's App messages folks.
