  2. France v Morocco semi-final live on BBC One

France v Morocco (Weds, 19:00 GMT)

Morocco's historic World Cup semi-final against France will be shown live on the BBC on Wednesday.

They became the first African side to reach the last four of the tournament after they beat Portugal 1-0 on Saturday, while France knocked out England in the day's other game.

The semi-final, which kicks off at 19:00 GMT, will be live on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK.

Argentina v Croatia, at 19:00 GMT on Tuesday, will be on ITV.

Commentaries of both games will also be on BBC Radio 5 Live and the BBC Sounds app.

The final is at the Lusail Stadium next Sunday, 18 December, at 15:00 GMT.

  3. 'Focused, happy & ready'

France v Morocco (Weds, 19:00 GMT)

From the games room of the luxurious Al Messila Resort in Doha, you can hear the laughter from far away.

There are eight France players sat round a large rectangular table, Uno cards in their hands approaching the end of a game - and it is tense. Youssouf Fofana and Aurelien Tchouameni look like they could win but Dayot Upamecano is in a strong position too. One card and everything can change.

This was the scene two days before the World Cup quarter-final against England, yet it is an evening like any other in the France camp.

Inside the France squad: 'Focused, happy & ready'.

  4. Morocco run can 'galvanise' African football

France v Morocco (Weds, 19:00 GMT)

Morocco's success in becoming the first African team to reach the World Cup semi-finals can "galvanise" the continent, according to one of African football's top officials.

The Atlas Lions beat Portugal 1-0 on Saturday to make history, and will now face defending champions France in the last four in Qatar on Wednesday (19:00 GMT).

However, Veron Mosengo-Omba, the general secretary of Confederation of African Football (Caf), says more investment and resources must be made available for other countries to match the achievement by the North Africans.

"Morocco show it is possible for Africa to shortly have more teams in the World Cup semi-final, and even in the final," Mosengo-Omba told BBC Sport Africa.

"The Moroccan result will, for sure, galvanise the entire continent. But galvanising and dreaming is not enough to grow [the game] and make African football more competitive to win the World Cup.

"It needs concrete actions and long-term efforts."

  5. 'Can Morocco go all the way? Why not!'

France v Morocco (Weds, 19:00 GMT)

    Morocco celebrate beating Portugal

In this World Cup, the Moroccan performance is a wonderful story – it is so deserved what they have achieved so far. Can they make it all the way? – why not! They are there, they among the top four and they have already sent home top teams. Anything is possible in football and life as well, so why not?

They are taking this tournament one game at a time, and now they have two to go. They are still the underdogs but they have fantastic support here in Qatar and they will give everything they have.

People are saying they are defensively minded and rely on some brilliant moments going forward, but there is nothing wrong with this approach. It works so far and they do have players with top quality like Hakim Ziyech, while Sofyan Amrabat is having the tournament of his life. They have a fantastic goalkeeper in Bono, who could be keeper of the tournament and then Youssef En-Nesyri up front - well, I'm not sure anyone can jump as high as him. He looked like Michael Jordan!

The fact they represent the African continent is wonderful. Africa has always had the quality of players to go far in a World Cup but they never made it as a team unit – you look back at countries like Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon – they always had a super amount of quality players at big European clubs but they could never figure a way as a unit to go so far in the World Cup.

Now Morocco are doing it and they could go further still.

  6. Messi closes in on another record

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    .

If Lionel Messi plays, he will equal Lothar Matthaus for the most appearances in World Cup history (25). As well as being Argentina's joint-highest goalscorer in the competition (10), he's one assist away from equalling Diego Maradona's overall record of eight at World Cup finals (since 1966).

  7. Will Argentina reach sixth final?

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Argentina

    2014 runners-up

Argentina are looking to reach the World Cup final for the sixth time, a figure bettered only by Germany (8). They've never been eliminated at the semi-final stage before, most recently beating the Netherlands in 2014. Argentina have been runners-up twice since last winning the World Cup in 1986.

  8. Post update

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

A final question for Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic.

He's asked about Croatia's style of play, and criticisms that his side playing in a boring way.

"We are in the semi-finals of the World Cup. That is where the story ends," he responds.

  9. 37 and still going strong

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

    .

Luka Modric has made the most World Cup appearances (17) and most appearances at major tournaments (30) for Croatia. He’s started all five of their 2022 World Cup matches and could become only the fourth player to start six matches at a World Cup aged 37-plus, after Brazil’s Nilton Santos in 1962, Italy’s Dino Zoff in 1982 and England’s Peter Shilton in 1990.

  10. 'We made a dream a reality'

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic on what it would mean to reach the final again: "The Croatia national team four years ago made a dream a reality for all small countries, we gave those countries the right to have those dreams. Four years ago nobody expected Croatia to reach the final. They have been encouraged by our fight and our quality.

"Both teams bare great emotions. Emotion and passion. Football brings a lot of good things and a lot of disappointments. From four teams, two will reach the final and there will be only one winner."

  11. Croatia doing it the hard way

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

Croatia may be semi-finalists in this World Cup and finalists from Russia 2018 but they have not won a knockout game in the tournament in 90 minutes since 1998.

They needed shootouts to beat Denmark and Russia four years ago and in the semi-final went to extra time against England.

This year they have gone all the way to penalties in both knockout matches - first against Japan and then Brazil.

  12. 'To reach another final would be Croatia's greatest moment'

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

Croatia boss Zlatko Dalic on how he will approach the match, four years on from beating Argentina at the last World Cup: "This 2018 match has nothing to do with tomorrow's match. It is a great match for both countries. The stakes are high for both teams. Tomorrow, none of us will spare any effort. I expect a solid, dynamic and fair game from both sides."

On Argentina's previous match, he adds: "The Argentina-Netherlands match was quite feisty, there were many duels and non-football related situations. I really hope this will not be the case.

"For me the semi-final match against England [in 2018] was the greatest of all time and Brazil was second. Tomorrow's match will be third. To repeat such an achievement [of reaching the final] on the World Cup stage, to win tomorrow, it would make it the greatest game for Croatia of all time."

  13. 'We want more'

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic on reaching back-to-back World Cup semi-finals: "We are among the four best teams in the world. That is an extraordinary success for Croatia. However, we want more.

"We are playing the great Argentina, a terrific team led by Lionel Messi. We have analysed our opponent and we know how they play, where they want to take the game. I am an optimist by nature, I trust my players. They have great character and they would not have made the semi-finals without that.

"We have played extra time in two matches but we are in the semi-finals of the World Cup so we are not discussing exhaustion. We have strength, willingness and energy. We will give our best. We have recovered after each match."

  14. 'No favourite among final four'

    Peter Schmeichel

Former Manchester United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

    I don't see a favourite now.

I think Croatia could win it. They're not playing the most exciting brand of football but they have nerves of steel and they have Luka Modric. I won't say they're favourites but they could win it.

With the enthusiasm and the atmosphere Morocco provides anything can happen. I think for that squad it might be a little too much.

Then we have France and Argentina. It's very hard to retain the World Cup and that would be some achievement, while we also have the Lionel Messi story.

  15. Post update

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Croatia

    Next up, Croatia.

    Updates to follow.

  16. 'We need to focus entirely on tomorrow'

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Argentina

    2014 runners-up

More from Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni on tomorrow's semi-final: "We won't change our way of thinking. Everyone knows this is a football match and we will give it all on the pitch. Sometimes luck can be with your side or not. It is a crucial match, especially for our people, but this is football and sometimes the best team does not win."

On leading Lionel Messi in what is expected to be his final World Cup, Scaloni adds: "We will see if he decides to continue playing or not and if we can continue enjoying watching him play football.

"Our whole country is backing us but there is a long way to go. We need to focus entirely on tomorrow's match, it will be a tough one."

  18. 'We know what is expected'

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Argentina

    2014 runners-up

Asked about the fallout from Argentina's win over the Netherlands, Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni says: "The previous game was played the way we had to play it - from both teams - and that's football.

"Some games can happen, there can be arguments. That's why there is a referee. We need to put an end to this idea of Argentina not being good winners. We won the Copa America in Brazil with the most sporting behaviour. I am not convinced by this idea. We need to show our pride."

On the upcoming semi-final, he adds: "All Argentinians are hopeful. We play for all of our people. We are so appreciative of the Argentina fans, we know how much it costs to come all the way over here. We know what is expected of us. Regarding Croatia, they have a specific style and I don't think they will change that."

  19. Post update

Argentina v Croatia (Tues, 19:00 GMT)

    Argentina

    2014 runners-up

Now it's over to Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni.

First, he's asked about his plan for facing Croatia and whether the 3-0 loss in 2018 offers additional motivation.

"We expect a tough match and it's against a really good team. They are a proper team, they play as a team and they will make things challenging. I don't think we can go into comparisons with the previous World Cup but I am convinced they are a really good team. It will be a tough game."
