  2. 'We've been here before and can do it again'published at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's been a problem all season, we haven't been able to create. You look at our goals for and we have not scored enough. We need Antonio, Bowen, Benrahma, Ings and Scamacca to get amongst the goals. Today we didn't have our shooting boots on.

"We needed to do a job on Tottenham but also we needed to try and score and win it today, that was the plan. We made two or three passes back to the goalkeeper at the start of the second half, I thought we could have built better from it, we got caught on the ball twice early in the second half and they took on of the chances which got pass through our defence so simply without being picked up. We've only got ourselves to blame for it and overall the players did a lot of good things as well.

"We've been here before so I'm sure we can do it again but looking forward to the players who are joining me in the fight because that is going to be noticeable in the weeks to come. They're all for it. Lots of things today, the players did well, they really did. But the two most important things, not scoring and then conceding, we didn't do as well as we should have."

Last season that average was 1.3.

  4. 'Well deserved win for the team'published at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur goalscorer Son Heung-Min speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "Every player doesn't want to sit on the bench, this is clear but when I am sitting there, I'm always thinking where I can help the team and that's what I did when I came on. Today was a difficult game, we make a clean sheet and score the goals so I am very, very happy today.

"I still want to improve, I still want to do better things that I haven't done, I'm always always positive after I play bad so I don't want to celebrate too much after the victory. With my performance, I know I can do much much better and I want to improve.

"We can stay here all day talking about performances, the Premier League is really really tough and it was a tough game and tough result. Coming back, the first half it is not easy to bounce back strongly so I think we did alright and obviously the goal in the second half changed everything and made the space bigger and create chances and that makes a huge difference so we score the first goal which is really important and we did that early in the second half. Happy for the second half performance and the effort that the lads but in and I think well deserved for the team."

  6. 'Let's see who's up for the fight'published at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to Sky Sports: "Some good stuff in the first half, I enjoyed watching us. Start of the second half we rolled the ball back to the goalkeeper, we played slowly, made a couple of mistakes that we got away with and I think we gave Tottenham encouragement to come on to us a bit more but it's a poor defeat for us, we expected to get something from this game but a couple of defensive lapses were the difference.

"We changed slightly to try and tactically give ourselves the best chances not to concede any goals. I think in the first half we were a bit open and when you leave it open for Tottenham, they are so good on the counter attack. Any scraps like the second goal, Kane gets a scrap, outplays the centre half and plays the pass through to Son for the goal.

"We were quite compact, stopped them getting through and I think we did better in the first half. We allowed them to play a little bit more through us in the second half. We went backwards when we didn't need to, we had to go chasing it a little bit. I just thought that started to open up some spaces.

"I'm trying to find ways of getting more goals, mor shots, more attempts on goal. Jarrod Bowen has a half chances after they score and maybe could have made it 1-1 and started to change the look of it but we are not making enough chances. We're hoping Dany Ings will come up with some goals for us. We have got to hope that Benrahma, Antonio and Bowen come up with the good because we are lacking in that area. We still try to be a threat but we are not as big a threat as we have been.

"I told the players that we did a good enough job at times today. we had a lapse in defence, it was a terrible pass to allow Davies to get on it and it should be easily cut out by the centre halves. We needed to grow into the game. Recently we have not been scoring loads so what you can't afford to do is concede a goal and we can concede one but the minute they score the second one, we made it doubly difficult.

"Our results are key, we keep going, we've been feeling better about our performances and even today, we did some things which weren't good which I agree with. There are bits of it I want to build on and hope that we take it in. The players have been challenged now, let's see who's up for the fight."

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

No Spurs player has ever scored more goals as a substitute in a single Premier League campaign than Son Heung-min's four this season.

Not bad for a man who's only been on the bench twice all season.

  8. 'It's down to us'published at 19:00 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice speaking to Sky Sports: "I think when it comes to Spurs, it's always going to be tough but it's down to us to perform, create chances and score goals.

"We were in it in the first half but we didn't make the most of it.

"Everyone knows the position we are in but it's up to us to sort it out.

"Last year we were so good, we felt we'd score a couple of goals each game but sometimes this happens. When you play with five at the back the strikers can feel a bit isolated so we need to give them more support.

"There are six or seven teams in and around us [at the bottom]. We are the only ones who can change it so I'm not too bothered about them, it's down to us."

None of Tottenham’s last 22 home games in the Premier League have ended in a draw, with Spurs winning 15 and losing seven.

This is their longest run without a home draw in league competition since October 1987.

  10. 'We produced many situations to score'published at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Cristian Stellini speaking to Sky Sports: "No, it's never easy, it was a really difficult first half because it was a game that we had players who fight a lot, we choose this type of team for this sort of game. In the second half they played well, our energy was bigger and we produced many situations to score.

"I said that we have to use passion because in this type of game, the time arrives where you can create something. In the first half, the space was small, in the second half we can stretch them. We worked in the pocket with a number 10 and sometimes dropping Harry Kane in this space and Harry can create many situations with his quality."

On the penalty shout in the first half: "It's really strange, when we played in their stadium five months ago, we had a penalty and the VAR cancelled the penalty. Now, the VAR has to make a decision and I think they made the wrong decision. I did not understand."

On the first goal: "This is a goal we have to find more opportunity like this, we have to find more time. It is difficult against a team that plays five at the back like West Ham, we have to do it. We are happy for this win, we have to say thanks to all of the players for their behaviour during the time that Antonio is not with us.

"Son stayed on the bench, the moment was important and it was the moment for Son. With the space, Son is an amazing player and we try to use him in this way. It was a good idea. Son has a goal so we are happy for him. He has to stay calm and produce his best performance. At the moment he is not 100% so we have to manage him.

"Conte sent some texts to the bench and they transferred it to me. He is good, he is fine and can be involved in the game so that is fine. Sometimes I want to do things and I ask him and he allows me and Ryan [Mason] sometimes he tells us to wait and sometimes he asks what we feel about players and their stamina."

On being in the top four: "We are happy for that and we have to continue to be consistent in the performance."

On being without Antonio Conte: "Big responsibility but with the responsibility, you have to grow a bit. I'm happy because I have Ryan Mason with me to help me a lot and all the staff work hard and we push ourselves in another level to try and cover the gap."

  11. 'I need to accept it'published at 18:47 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs forward Son Heung-min told Sky Sports: "Nobody wants to sit on the bench but it's a decision you to have accept. The decision is always made by the manager and I need to accept."

On scoring: "The pass was really good and my first touch helped to make the goal.

"I tried my best to help the team. I got the chance and I was happy to score."

On the absence of Antonio Conte: "If Conte isn't here it's really sad but being healthy is the most important thing. The gaffer will come as soon as possible. The coaching staff make sure that we are confident."

  12. 'It was a tough week'published at 18:44 Greenwich Mean Time 19 February 2023

    FT: Tottenham 2-0 West Ham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs defender Ben Davies told Sky Sports: "It was a tough week, especially after Leicester and hopefully we've rectified that.

"It's been a while since I got that far forward but that's what you've got to do as a wing-back.

"There's a lot of running involved and you've got to get up and down but I'm always happy to play."

On Son Heung-min getting his goal: "It's what we've come to expect from him. We see it every day on the training pitch. A few haven't gone his way this season but we're delighted for him."

Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham got the job done. It wasn't pretty but effective. That is the best way to sum Spurs up this afternoon.

They slipped into that top four spot. There is so much more to give from this Spurs group.

I think they did deserve the points.

There are positives to take from Spurs and from West Ham.

Son back on the scoresheet, that is huge for them.

Cristian Stellini has been the main man in the Spurs dugout three times this season (unless I've missed one...) and they've won them all.

They beat Marseille in their crucial final Champions League group game when Antonio Conte had a touchline ban and then saw off Manchester City and West Ham in the Premier League while Conte has been recovering from surgery.
