This pair are almost certainly more worried about what's going on below them than above.

Reading made a fine start to the season under Paul Ince but they're now winless in their past six league games.

Rotherham start the night five points above the relegation zone.

The Millers hammered the Royals 4-0 when the two clubs met for the first time in August and are looking to do a league double over the Berkshire outfit for the first time.

    QPR 0-0 Sunderland

QPR have handed a first start to striker Chris Martin, who netted on his debut off the bench in the defeat by Millwall on Saturday, while midfielder Tim Iroegbunam is back in the Hoops XI.

Tony Mowbray has made three changes, with forward Amad Diallo among those dropping to the bench.

The Ivorian is Sunderland's second-top scorer this season with seven goals, and top scorer Ross Stewart will miss the rest of the campaign.

Patrick Roberts and Jack Clarke are the next highest scorers for the Black Cats in the league this season, with four each. Both of them are on the pitch in west London.

The former Ipswich, Sunderland and Crystal Palace man is straight into the squad and on the bench tonight, with Kion Etete starting up front alongside Sory Kaba.

Gillingham's mini-revival suffered a setback at the weekend but the Kent club could move out of the relegation zone if they beat Grimsby Town at home, with Hartlepool and Crawley in their sights.

Pools, however, have a chance to drag 19th-placed Crewe into the scrap while Crawley travel to play-off hopefuls Stockport.

Meanwhile, it's top versus bottom in the fourth tier as leaders Leyton Orient, who have an eight-point cushion at the top and a 14-point buffer to the play-off places, host a Rochdale side who are five points from safety.

Stevenage and Carlisle make up the automatic promotion spots, but Northampton will be looking to leapfrog the Cumbrians when they face AFC Wimbledon.

    Birmingham v Cardiff (19:45 GMT)

    Sabri LamouchiImage source, Getty Images

Starting new relationships can be tough and so far it has not been a match made in heaven for Sabri Lamouchi and Cardiff City.

The 51-year-old Frenchman became the Bluebirds's third manager of the season on 27 January, and has lost his first three games in charge.

In fact, the Welsh club are now 12 league games without a win and are only outside of the Championship relegation zone on goal difference.

Lamouchi goes looking for his first point at a Birmingham City side who have won their past two, including a 2-0 win against in-form West Brom last Friday,

However, before that the Blues had lost five in a row - so it's not all sunshine and roses at St Andrew's.

Norwich City's fine start to life under former Huddersfield boss David Wagner has come unstuck after successive defeats.

The Canaries are now four points off the play-offs and just a single point above tonight's visitors, Hull.

The Tigers are in fine fettle under Liam Rosenior and eyeing an unlikely tilt for a top-six finish themselves.

Norwich bring winger Onel Hernandez back into the starting XI, while Hull make four changes from the 0-0 draw at Stoke.

Plymouth Argyle regained top spot in the third tier at the weekend and the Pilgrims travel to Oxford United, where boss Karl Robinson is coming under pressure after five games without a win.

Second-placed Sheffield Wednesday entertain a struggling Morecambe side who could move out of the relegation zone with victory.

Bristol Rovers will aim to avoid a fifth straight defeat at third-placed Ipswich while fourth-placed Bolton host MK Dons, with the visitors one point above the bottom four.

Duncan Ferguson searches for his win as Forest Green boss at home against mid-table Charlton.

Rovers begin the evening seven points from safety and with a goal difference of -33 - the worst in the EFL.

    QPR v Sunderland (19:45 GMT)

    Will FerrellImage source, Getty Images

American actor Will Ferrell is in the UK and seems to be doing a tour of football matches while he's here.

From drinking with Wrexham fans on Saturday to appearances at Manchester City and Liverpool over the past couple of days, the 55-year-old has now pitched up at Loftus Road tonight.

He definitely knows his soccer, as he is a co-owner of MLS side LA FC (evidenced by his bobble hat).

His Anchorman alter ego Ron Burgundy may have an apartment which smells of rich mahogany with many leatherbound books, but will the R's be taking him to Pleasure Town?

    Neil CritchleyImage source, PA Media

Tonight another chapter could be added to the curious case of QPR.

The Hoops were top of the Championship on 22 October but since then boss Mick Beale swapped the Rangers of west London for those in Glasgow - and the club have one victory in 15 league games.

An eight-match winless run sees the R's down in 16th place and seven points off the play-offs, with Neil Critchley looking for only his second win after taking charge in December.

Things are looking up for Sunderland, however, with the Black Cats a point off the play-off places.

After their long fall since relegation from the Premier League in 2017, Tony Mowbray has restored belief on Wearside and his side are handy away from home.

They are unbeaten in seven trips away from the Stadium of Light - their best run at this level or higher since 2007.

  15. Falling in love with Coventry... in Argentinapublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2023

    Here's a feel-good story for you...

A Coventry City fan from Argentina said it was "a dream come true" to be offered tickets to his first match when he became an overnight local celebrity.

Midfielder Kasey Palmer reached out to Lauti Murguia after a photo of him buying a Sky Blues shirt in London was shared widely on social media.

Lauti, 22, said he "fell in love" with the club through video games Fifa and Football Manager.

He watched Coventry draw 1-1 with Luton on Saturday and added that Coventry was the "number one" destination visited so far on his tour of the UK.

    Coventry v Millwall (19:45 GMT)

Viktor Gyokeres in action for CoventryImage source, Rex Features

Coventry City managed to keep hold of top scorer Victor Gyokeres during the January transfer window, but could do with the striker rediscovering his scoring touch.

The Sweden international has 12 Championship goals this season, but has failed to find the next in seven league outings.

That has coincided with a run of one win in eight games for the Sky Blues, who have drifted down to 14th place and find themselves seven points off the top six.

Visitors Millwall, meanwhile, are quietly going about their business and in the thick of the play-off battle.

Boss Gary Rowett will have been delighted to see both his January signings get on the scoresheet at the weekend, with Duncan Watmore and Oliver Burke securing all three points at QPR.

The Lions have not been involved in the second-tier play-offs since 1993-94 when they finished third but were beaten by Derby in the semi-finals.

Forget about the top two for now, with Burnley and Sheffield United looking like they're heading off into the sunset.

But the play-off race is as congested as it has ever been, with just 10 points covering third-placed Middlesbrough from 11th-placed Hull.

To be honest, this graphic doesn't tell the whole story.

Birmingham and Reading, in 17th and 18th respectively, are eight points off Watford and both clubs have a game in hand on the Hornets.

Things will remain interesting for quite a few weeks to come...
